I’m now on my second day taking 400micrograms.
No side effects so far.
How long before I start to feel any improvement in the “weak bladder problems” on average anyone?

A few days.
In my case a few days, 2/3 as far as I can remember. I was prescribed Duodart ( Tamsulosin + Dutasteride ) initially after Radiotherapy for prostate cancer, I was told I would only need it for a few weeks until my urethra settled down after the radiation. That was over 2 years ago!
I tried to get off it after the suggested time ie about 3 weeks, but after 2 weeks off it I had to go back on it again as i had difficulty urinating.
I tried to stop taking Duodart again after about three months on it, I lasted about a week and had to go back on it.
Just recently I stopped taking it yet again hoping to be free of Duodart ....I lasted 24 hours!!!!
As much as I hate the side effects I would be reluctant to try to get off it again. From what people tell me, I should stay on the medication rather than have surgery...the dreaded TURP! Any suggestions would be welcome.
I was prescribed Tamsulosin and Dutasteride over 15 years ago. I stopped taking the Tamsulosin as I felt it didn’t provide any benefit. I still take the Dutasteride and have an acceptable flow.
I’ve been asked to do a 28 day trial for various urological issues mainly urine retention. I’d be interested to see how you get on. Is your main symptom poor flow or do you have others? If you wouldn’t mind sharing this would be really helpful to me. Take care, good luck and thanks…
it’s an element of poor flow but also peeing far too much, sometimes not making it to the toilet, getting up in the night several times. I’ll try and keep you posted.
may I ask what is your PSI? My flow is OK much better since glutting out caffeine and drinking 2 liters of water separately each day. Get up once a night and sometimes peeing a lot - trying to get a GP appointment to discuss but really difficult!! LoL
sorry g2409 but I don’t know what PSI is.
Good luck with getting the gp appointment- he will probably examine the prostate.
no worries - it’s the reading the take on a blood test that gives some indication as to prostate size/enlargement
”they”
I’ve looked back at record - test result says normal . There is a mention of prostate specific antigen level of 0.74 if that means anything.
It's known as a PSA test in the UK Prostate Specific Antigen test
Perhaps you mean PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen)?
I have been taking tamsulosin 400 micrograms since 2001, and have had no side effects.
I take Tamsulosin for Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH). No side effects but no real effects either. I'd say it stopped things from getting worse but didn't really make them any better. I had a 'rebore' (HoLEP) and stopped taking it but, a few years later, was back to square one and put back on Tamsulosin again - same experience, no better but no worse either.
I was on tamsulosin for a few years, there was an effect for after a few days (good) but then what happened to me is that I didn't notice the degradation in urinary performance over the following years. Ultimately I had TURP. All is well now
Forgive me if this is a bit “off topic”, but has anyone else noticed an improvement in flaccid hang since commencing tamsulosin ? I certainly have!
Day four of taking Tamsulosin and starting to feel mild side effects. Slight headache, slight palpitations and feeling a “bit out of it” and strangely a noticeable change as described by xsevenx above.
On the plus side I didn’t get up in the night and didn’t have any accidents yesterday.
I’ll persevere and hope side effects don’t worsen - some members say that adverse effects improve.
I have BPH and low grade Prostate cancer. Tamsulosin worked quite quickly for me but I didn't enjoy the concomitant postural hypotension (low blood pressure marked by dizziness on standing suddenly - I never acually fainted) nor the retrograde ejaculation (not too terrible as I'm not very sexually active at age 72). Lived with it reasonably comfortably but eventually urologist changed my meds as we were both concerned about safety while car driving. Finasteride took several months to have a noticeable effect. Am also on Alfuzosin and do self catheterization several times a day. These have meant I haven't needed surgery.
have been on tamsulosin for over two years at first i was getting acid reflux until medic sorted it with a antiacid pill all fine now one a day i am told there is outher treatment like hot water treatment or steam treatment but not all hospitals are trained to use it
Thank you. I’ve stopped taking it now- doctor says he’ll prescribe Doxacosin looking forward to that
Chapdog how are you getting on with the change to Doxazocin?
not received it from pharmacy yet. I think I’ll lay off taking it until after Christmas though in case of adverse effects.
PS I’ve only just got Tamsulosin out of my system.
