I've been taking my BS because I often feel fatiguey about once a week. Today went for a walk it was very hot when I got home felt a bit of fatigue. Check BS at 4.0. I had an orange drank tea and half hour later check it was 7.1? Is my test unit faulty or what?

It sounds as though your blood sugar was low and you were getting early hypo symptoms. The orange drink likely pushed your blood sugars back up as you would expect it to do.
An orange would do similar to my Blood Sugar. Many people get on a BS roller coaster if they have sugars or carbs, and fruits are generally high in sugars.Watch kids at a party. They get on a high from eating a lot of sugary stuff and then an hour or so later they're miserable and crying.
That's why many people are turning to a low-carbohydrate diet.
Of course being dehydrated certainly would make you feel pretty crappy too.
Thanks both. Reassuring! That's the second time recently I had Fatigue and the BS has been 4.1. I had an orange fruit I don't drink fruit juice only decaff tea/coffee or water. I suppose I am a bit worried about morning levels of 6.0 but research suggests it could be that as after breakfast it's down to 4.5 again. Hope I'm not going into a prediabetes phase (I'm 74). Dec '20 my A1c was 36mmol/mol which i think is borderline.
A client of mine reversed his type 2 diabetes with a low carb diet. I'm 62 and want to keep fit and active as long as possible. So when I saw his results I figured that prevention is better than cure. Now I've been following a similar approach. There is a great YouTube video by Dr Troy Stapleton who uses a similar style of eating to manage his type 1 diabetes.
From what I've seen, it seems that with good low carb approach, plenty of exercise and good help to resolve stress, most people can enjoy a happy active life in their 70s 80s and beyond.
