Have you had a PSA check?
Hi Truckfoot , you need to see ur doctor & speak to him/her & make sure that you tell them you don't want to take meds if possible & if there is a way you can help ur body by possibly making diet changes & best way to find out things is blood tests. I hope you find a solution & fast
Had blood tests up to about 6 yrs. ago. Results were normal. Symptoms returned about a year ago. No Doctor available as mine just retired.
Have tried a lot of old wives remedies including saw Palmetto, cranberry, pollen etc. It's possible that it may work for some , just like some prescription drugs work for some and some don't. But eventually ended up on tamsulosin, and just had a TURP op. As someone has said you need to go and get the PSA (cancer) test.
I am a 62 year old male weighing 17st , I was diagnosed with enlarged prostrate in January, put on Tamsulsion , which did not agree with me ( Ed , sleepless nights ) I stopped taking it and decided to go it alone !
Now 5 months on I have lost just short of 4 st
Stopped smoking and I cut out alcohol completely for 3 months , changed my diet , to include broccoli with almost every meal, cut coffee to 1 cup a day .
When I can I walk 15 to 20 k a day , the symptoms of enlarged prostrate have almost gone , during the night I pee once or twice instead of 5 or 6 times , and daytime I well under control.
I’m not saying this has been easy , but a little self control, and getting to grips with my self , has changed my life !
I want to get re checked by the doctor, but getting an appointment at the moment is not easy !
Hi Truckfoot. I can see you have had some useful information in the replies. In the first instance of symptoms for enlarged prostate, please make an appointment for your GP. He will initiate a blood test and an examination of your rectum. He may then prescribe medication, however some GP's forget to advise on daily health changes which are worth investigating and can be found on the NHS website for prostate problems. Have recently tried the changes discussed on the NHS website and have been pleasantly surprised. However, you must still see your GP, its crucial in this instance. Read the NHS website, it is the most reliable way of getting correct information.CBR600RIDER.
I've had problem for about 10 years. Diet helped reduce it. Medication had to many side effects. About a year ago started having problems again. Doctor retired so trying to get another for further tests.
I've had the problem for about 10 years. Prescription had to many side effects. I tried natural stuff and everything was OK for about 6 years. Last year or so, I've been getting all the symptoms again.
Don't dismiss medication without trying it. Maybe I've been lucky but I've been helped by medical personnel for many years now with various tests medications and procedures that have worked well for me.
i have found in taking tamsulosin is the only med that works for me with very few side effects
