You will need to see your doctor to determine what is causing your enlarged prostate. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is usually treated with alpha blocker medication but if too severe may require surgery. Prostate cancer needs to be confirmed snd staged before treatment can be commenced with an oncologist.

I think you'll get best advice here if you explain why you think you have a prostate problem. What are your symptoms? What tests might you have had? I have both enlarged prostate (benign) and cancer (dormant so far). I've had urine retention after anaesthetics, been prescribed three different medications - Tamsulosin, Finasteride, Cialis, and several episodes of Urine infection and two different antibiotics for two different identified bacteria, - I now do daily intermittent self- catheterisation to make sure I fully empty the bladder. This has all delayed a need for surgery, but this may be next! I'm due to have another scan this month. I'd be happy to share more with you if you can dare or bear to share more with us!

Have you been referred to hospital Urology department? I see Consultant rarely but Urology nurse is very helpful. I’m now able to measure my own residue by peeing normally and then using intermittent self-catheter to pee the last bit into a measuring jug. This helps when I can report results. Apparently the guide is 350 ml and as I usually retain less than that, a surgical intervention can be deferred. My trouble is that the more infections I get, the more strain and risk of damage to the kidneys and at present my function is just under half.
