this are either naevi ( moles ) or slightly pigmented HPV lesions. 90% of people with HPV have no symptoms , this is why your wife may have no symptoms, and you are in the 10% that do get symptoms. You don't even need to have penetrative sex, even skin to skin contact can transmit the HPV virus.
