Hi I'm 52 and I just had a circumcision 27/ 8 /24 I'm 1 week in and so far everything seems fine not much pain at 1st just very uncomfortable, slight pain from stitches day 5 but its the night time erections r the wost but I know this will get better. The thing that worries me is going back to work, I do a lot of driving and lifting and the thought of that at the moment buts me right off, any help would be appreciated and any one has any questions I'll answer best I can thanks

I found the worst thing was bumping my penis against stuff or clothes rubbing the cut line in the early days. I was lucky because I'm retired but still found it difficult when out, especially walking. You could try tight underwear so that you don't flop around or I tried a sports sock down my pants to protect it. If you're doing a lot of lifting maybe buy a cricketer's box to stop things getting knocked. You're right the nighttime erections are the worst. I found lying on my side with my knees drawn up to my chest helped or get up and stand on the cold floor till it goes down

Hi there, welcome to the Circ Bros. Hope you're doing okay. Man7Cut has definitely nailed it with his comments about bumping and seam lines rubbing against the scar line in the early days, and his recommendations for briefs and maybe using a box.

I agree that the night erections are quite uncomfortable until the stitches start losing their tensile strength (around the 2-weeks mark). I'd probably say it was the source of the most discomfort I experienced during my early recovery, because it interrupted sleep and was not a nice feeling. However, I found stopping drinking after 6pm, emptying my bladder before bed and waking up around 3am for a midnight wee helped to reduce their frequency. I still got woken up by them... I remember saying "nooooooo" as I woke up and I'd always get out of bed immediately to get the blood pumping elsewhere.

If you can take more time to heal away from work, I would do so. But I also understand that sometimes this isn't an option. You could get yourself some sterile swabs to wrap yourself up (after applying some vaseline to your stitches and wound line) and surgical support pants to hold them in place. They might be enough to get you mobile and keep you as comfortable as possible - it worked for me until month 2 when I began wearing briefs.

You got this. We're all here if you need anything.

Morning, I had my circumcision done on Tuesday so I'm on day 3 of recovery now. I took my dressing off last night and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Quite a bit of discomfort and yeah the night time erections are not the best. I'm having at least 3 weeks off week, I'm on my feet a lot, so don't want to rush back and cause any problems. If I was you I really wouldn't rush back, it's not worth causing any problems with the healing process, you don't want setting back.

hey. Well done. Don't worry about night time erections. They do hurt but it will pass. My doc said the blood flow they create helps to heal. Are you dipping it in salt water daily? Don't rub, just dip and air dry. Salt helps prevent infection and promotes healing. I also wore tight pants and a dressing in the first weeks to restrict movement. A little Vaseline on the head helps with soreness too. Best of luck!

Hi, I'm not dipping it in salt walter, just keeping it dry for now. Unfortunately I can't dip it in salt water anyway, I had to have my urethal opening opened as it had become quite small so I've got a catheter in to allow my opening to heal. It's not the best, but it needed doing, the catheter gets taken out next week so I can then concentrate on my full recovery. Let me tell you, night time erections with a tube in there are not the best.

I feel for you man, that must be horrible. Hope it's a big relief when it is taken out

Cheers, it's not painful, just very uncomfortable. I'm sure it's a massive relief when it's taken out.

you could try an athletic box/cup under your underwear

Try to take as much time off as you can. And I found tight underwear helped both day and night. Movement meant pain so keeping things still was essential .

My son age 30..had the procedure 10 days ago... today reported... still sensitive and sore ...follow up review in 3 days ...took 2 weeks off work.

Definitely the best approach to take time off work. The docs usually say the stitches lose their tensile strength around 10 days in and things start to feel a bit easier, was certainly the case for me. Hope he's okay.

Vaseline wasn't recommended by my doctor. This will leave your hypersensitivity unnecessarily long. In a dry, vaseline-free environment, your sensitivity will normalize much more quickly. I used the cream until all the stitches were completely gone and only on the scar.
