Enterococcus faecalis infection in semen sample

I've given two semen samples and it came back with this infection. Had a course of cipro for weeks after first sample but didn't help and now doc wants me to try cipro again for another 3 weeks.

Have had ongoing issues for a while now, soreness. Pain during urination , ED and more.

Have phimosis and down for op in may but i need to clear this infection first… If oral meds dont work i might have to do IV as im allergic to penicillin.

Anyone had this particular strain of infectin and how did you cure it?

Thanks

It can be very difficult to treat E. faecalis infections due to their resistance to several antibiotics. However, ampicillin is the main drug used by healthcare providers, as it is most effective against these infections. For severe infections, such as endocarditis, combination antibiotics are used. Combination drugs are often given intravenously

Thanks for reply. Not looking good then, how does it end up in the urinary tract/semen? Im hygienic and never participated in anal sex, its a mystery.

I also read it makes men infertile, bad news all round for me.

Most of this bacteria are found in the GI tract - hence its name. It can also be found in the mouth and vagina. It looks likely that hospital treatment may be necessary. If one course of cipro did not work then repeating the course does not seem to me to be a sensible way forward.

A urologist consultant at University College London suggested to try Cipro again for 3 weeks. He said IV treatment would be needed if it doesn't work

I guess that they must have tested your samples for sensitivity to cipro. Hope you get rid of the infection soon.
