Recent circumcision advice (2 days in)

Hi! I had my circumcision done 2 days ago and I’m concerned about a couple of things.

First, the initial gauze that they wrapped my wound in was beginning to get in the way when I peed, so I removed it after around 24 hours and replaced it with some non-woven swabs that I was given when I was discharged. Could someone advise me on how long should I be keeping my penis covered for? And how and when should I be cleaning the wound? I was told I could shower after 4 days, so I’ve been waiting until then.

Secondly, I was quite surprised to see just how swollen the skin just above the stitches got after the first night. When abouts should this be going down?

Also do you think it would be a good idea to have a follow up appointment with my GP soonish?

Thank you for any help.

the first thing you need to do is stop worrying about what is going to happen be patient your healing has started

Did you receive instructions when you were discharged

I also removed my gauze after 1 day I suggest you have baths lay in water only no more soaps ever

Your swelling will reduce when it’s ready just leave it be keep it clean with the baths and you will be fine

I did not see my GP no need what can they do

Best wishes to you

The only real instructions I received were showering after 4 days and to apply an antibiotic ointment for 5 days.

Did you redress your circumcision after removing the initial gauze or did you leave it off completely after that first day?

Thanks for the help.

no I did not use anything after the gauze came off no instructions for creams either just baths to keep the area clean and to help the stitches to rot away

I wore loose boxers and continued walking my dogs to get out and about

That worked for me good luck to you

The antibacterial ointment is your bestfriend! Make sure that the wound is dry and clean always. Also, eat a lot of protein (eggs, fish, chicken). Double dose your Vit C to heal faster.

the initial dressing fell of pretty quick. I used non stick pads under tight underwear to keep it in place. Short baths in salt water to keep it clean before moving onto showers.

Good luck.

Keep the wound as much dry as possible. I haven't taken bath for first 4 days post circumcision. And once the initial gauze came off, I started using the ointment given to me, applying over the wound and all over the glans and cover the penis head with cotton gauze and tape the penis in upright position, this helps to reduce the swelling. Twice a day i used to change the dressing and applying ointment. Cont this for 10 days you should see swelling goes down and stiches healing faster.
