What to do on day 5 of circumsision?

I’ve been given after care instructions on how to dress my penis and keep it up for 2 weeks, I was also able to take a shower on day 3 as instructed. However I couldn’t bear more than a bit of spray on it, any tips on how to keep good hygiene of the penis in the shower or how to wash it properly?

I have a bit of yellow discharge on the left of my incision and also on the frenulum. I have been told this is normal but do I need to wash it off?

Well this suggestion will be good for you in 2 ways,Get a glass or cup, fill it with lukewarm salty water and soak your penis in it for 5 mins morning and night. This will keep everything clean and sterile and will lift off the dead skin, blisters and gunk that will appear as your glans dries out and desensitises over the next few weeks.Plus the fact that as you start to change your dressings twice a day it will really help to unstick the dressing from your frenulum..believe me,peeling that off twice a day without softening it First is no fun at all.The yellow discharge is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, this will just lift off with daily soakings like I said above, make sure that you wash all the salt off throughly after soaking, the best way is to fill the cup with lukewarm water and gently swirl it about,do this a couple of times just to make sure and then dry the wound site well..you can let it air dry but that takes time,I used a hairdryer(carefully) on its lowest setting and that did the job.

Thanks for the answer! I’ve seen a lot of people talk about the salt water but was never instructed to do it by my urologist, but I guess I’ll give it a try?

Also I have two more questions,

1.What does infection look like? I don’t feel too ill but there is a lot of yellow discharge from the frenulum and quite a bit of redding along the incision, is this normal?

2.What do I do when I don’t have to dress the penis anymore? My urologist instructed to dress the penis myself in gauze everyday for 2 weeks, then I don’t have too. However I am wondering will this even be possible and not cause too much pain when I have to be without it?

I am 17 and I had surgery on the 27th of January

The salt water will be your best friend going forward over the next few weeks. The discharge and redness are normal, keep an eye on it and if you notice it smelling then get your doctor to check it out,but generally it’s perfectly fine.

Doctors say different things, mine told me to dress my penis for the first 4 weeks as the self adhesive bandage helped reduce swelling, but if your doc said two I’d take his advice as he knows your case,it couldn’t hurt to ask him if it would help to dress it longer if you wanted .If you get worried about infection then just have a thermometer to hand,it’s easy to panick about these things.I went to the ER because I was so worried at one point..it turned out to be me overreacting, but one thing to remember is that it’s going to look ugly before it looks better…but it will get better, just a bit of patience from now on,6 weeks from now you’ll be in a lot better place…whatever you do Don’t give it a test run for at least 6 weeks!you’ll only risk damaging it,a wank isn’t worth it mate, just stay strong😊👍

Yea I wasn’t planning to test anytime soon 😅 it is too uncomfortable and painful for that right now

I’ll ask the doc what I should after the 2 week time has passed, do you have any tips on desensitisation? I go to college on a daily basis and work retail on the weekends so I just can’t imagine how I’ll do that without a gauze

Yep,Desensitisation is the most important part right now..everyone here will agree with you on that for sure.I was unbelievably sensitive and I spent the first four weeks with it wrapped in Vaseline soaked gauze when I went out and left open to the air when I was home. But I had to get rid of it sometime and at the end of the first month when I stopped using dressings I stopped with the gauze as well. After a month of gauze it had desensitised quite a bit and it got progressively better over the next couple of weeks.A couple of tips to make life much easier, shave all your pubes, balls too, hair and stubble will just irritate things when it’s all finally unwrapped and ungauzed, and the other thing that you can do right now is wear tight underwear,I’d recommend ones made from micropore, very smooth and stretchy and holds everything in place and reduces a lot of the discomfort..get the size down from your usual as this gives you even more support.😊👍

I tried looking for micropore pants and I couldn’t find anything, any links or suggestions? I currently have tight briefs to hold everything up when I have the gauze on. Should I try these when I take the gauze off? I’m gonna email my doc today and ask him as well. Also is occasional tingling/itching around the incision normal? I was just thinking it’s stitches maybe

Tingling and itching is good,it’s a sign that it’s healing…I’m in Oz and they’re called micropore here but I had a look online and it looks like microfibre or modal might be the same thing in other countries, but I’m not sure, basically if it’s very soft, smooth and stretchy it’ll be a help in stopping friction and holding you in place.I would definitely recommend trying something like this when you stop gauzing.

Yea I found some microfibre trunks made by jockey, they any good or do you think briefs would be better? I’m wondering when the yellow liquid will go from the frenulum, I know it takes longer to heal but I’m just concerned as anyone.

Also I use Vaseline when I put the gauze on everyday, I’ve been instructed to do this but just wondering whether that’s good or should I be drying instead.

I think it’s the same stuff just different name,I found trunks to better for me as they have a bit more support, the yellow liquid is down to healing, but if you’re worried just put that in your email to the doc with a photo attached,he’ll let you know if it’s anything out of the ordinary.I was very sensitive so I Vaselined and guazed when I went out for the first month and left it exposed at home,at some point though you’re going to have to bite the bullet and get rid of the gauze.when you do it is down to you and how much discomfort you can take,I’m a wimp and put it it off for longer than some, but there’s no point in doing something painful if you can wait a bit and reduce the sensitivity.

Yea I’m just thinking about how I’m going to do no gauze next Thursday. I might allow more water contact in the shower for this week but patting the penis dry with a towel definitely felt better so who knows how it will be. How is it without a gauze btw? Is it painful to walk or is it just constant discomfort

Getting it under the shower longer day by day is good, but the reason I waited so long was that it was sooo sensitive and was painful rather than uncomfortable, but to be honest once I went for gauze free it was only a couple of weeks before it was down to bearable, and unnoticeable after a month(ish) I’d say when you get rid of the gauze if it’s uncomfortable then a bit of Vaseline only on the glans,no pubes so you don’t irritate it and get those tight stretchy underwear. But everyone’s different, some people on here are good to go after a couple of weeks and some are unlucky enough to be very sensitive after months, but they’re in the minority

Vaseline on the glands sounds like it could help, guessing that stops it from sticking to my pants. I will try at home first I guess, it will be a learning curve for sure. I think the feeling with a dressing is good like you don’t feel that uncomfortable or anything but it’s just going to the toilet which is annoying that’s why I wanna go without so I can get used to the feeling again. Is it okay to go without gauze even if there’s still a bit of discharge coming out? I just don’t wanna get an infection or irritate it a lot

You’re best asking your doc about the gauze and discharge,I know nothing about the medical side of things so I wouldn’t want to give you bad advice.

Hey man, went through this some months ago, hang in there. I reckon just be careful and dab with damp cloth then dry to clean whilst being very careful, that's all you can do.

I got instructed by my urologist that I can use mild non scent soap on day 7. I’ve also been instructed to just take quick showers
