Circumcision or not? Urologist appointment

Hello

I'm seeing a urologist this week. Advise and thoughts please.

I have mild phimosis. I am able to retract to wash etc when flaccid. I can retract to pee but it gives me a terrible aim- so I don't. I'm a hygienic person but truth be told this can cause excess wetness.

My foreskin is long and has a good 1" excess when flaccid. It has the red tip look (I'm sure some of you know what I mean).

Erect my foreskin isn't tight as it doesn't retract and I'm still left with some excess. So it naturally doesn't need to. It is tight to pull over the head though. It will with force but is very uncomfortable. I'd never masterbate or penetrate retracted.

Sex sometimes requires lube. Oral has never been good due to tug on my foreskin. I clearly masterbate a certain way to protect my foreskin and I've very on guard when my partner does it to me.

It has not affected conceiving a baby- my partner and I have recently had a beautiful baby girl.

I am strongly considering circumcision. Despite the known issues. My thoughts and questions laid out are...

1. They say sex can loose sensation. But I've never experienced sex with my head exposed or had the sensation of the foreskin gliding over the head and back. So actually will I gain more than I loose?

2. My foreskins length makes it look horrible and perhaps a circ would so me favours. I've a good sized gland covered.

3. Would a partial circ be an option? It's only the tip that's tight?

Thank you. Any responses gratefully received.

Don’t do the circumcision you lose 90% of sensations, your foreskin feels better this way trust me, I had the same story as you and now I’m suicidal

Hidden I am worried about you! If you are having thoughts of suicide, you really need an urgent (today) mental health consultation.

And for gods sake keep your penis away from them urologists, they care about money only, go ask an intactivist they would give you help advice for free too

Ignore the Zombie. Get circumcised, everything will improve for you and your partner. Go for a full circumcision as a partial will not give all the benefits that you could get from a partial and you don't want to have to go back for a revision later.

Furthermore, should your frenulum prove to be somewhat short (and you can only tell once you can fully and freely retract the foreskin, you would need to get that sorted. It's best to do everyrthing in one session when you will get the best results all round.

So I can only speak for myself. I got circ'd due to phimosis. I do not feel like I have lost any sensation in any significant way.

Also - the foreskin is supposed to retract when erect.

Hopefully I can provide a middle ground here, as there are already pretty extreme views here (which aren't necessarily helpful!).

Your situation seems similar to mine, although I also had Zoon's balanitis, BXO, and my (NHS) urologist was concerned about possible penile cancer. I had a frenuloplasty done 10 years ago which helped a little bit but the balanitis & BXO was getting more painful. So ultimately my circ was a medical decision and there was really no other decision to make.

I could retract when flaccid but only expose the top third of my glans when erect. Like you oral and masturbation from my partner wasn't as much fun as it should have been. Penetrative sex was usually OK but I took a long time to come due to lack of sensation due to tight foreskin.

I got circed in mid September 2021 so it's about 2 and a half months on. My circ is pretty loose so that my glans is partly covered still when I'm flaccid. When masturbating I've got a small amount of foreskin left which is great when rubbed over the coronal ridge. Having said that, masturbation is nowhere near as much fun as it was pre-circ. With the right stimulation I could pop very quickly with a foreskin and have mind-blowing orgasms. Post-circ it takes longer, sometimes I need to use lube and it's all very different. My glans has almost no sensitivity. Early days though - I've only masturbated a handful(!) of times.

Moving on to sex with my partner I was pretty excited to see how it would be, and it's been a bit of a let-down. Oral isn't much better than before (no glans sensitivity), handjobs need lube and careful pressure, and I've not been able to come in penetrative sex. No complaints from my partner, they've been having a whale of a time because of my extra stamina! Also early days though, it's like starting over and going back to being a teenager. I'm sure we'll get there, we just need to take our time.

I've blogged extensively on this over at circ.blog and please do contact me via PM if I can help. It's not a decision to be taken lightly but there's more to it than the black and white offered by the teamcut lot and the intactivists.

I think if the surgeon cannot honestly answer your three very valid questions, you should seek a second opinion.

Thank you everyone. I have very mixed feelings. But I have to trust the professionals otherwise I will always be just stuck. It's only when you read you realise how contentious the circumcision issue is. I remember a fair few boys even in the UK being done for non religious reasons are a youngest and up until recently never really considered it as an issue. I suppose mentally rendering the foreskin uselessness. Which it isn't.

I would consider going private for it. Dr Khan in London suppose to be good.

I'd caution against going to a dedicated circ clinic prior to having it assessed by the NHS. Too much incentive for a private clinic to perform a circ which may turn out to be unnecessary medically. Reading your original question again it does sound like a dorsal slit procedure might help, and given that you have plenty of foreskin to, er, play with so might stretching with rings and steroid cream.

It's a NHS referral from my doctor. It appointment is one of those NHS ones outsourced to a private hospital. Spire. But it's an NHS appt

circblog in reply to Jnt131

OK, cool. My urologist did those as well as NHS appts. All good. 50 years experience between him and the anaesthetist, both consultants. Make sure you ask about options for partial circ, dorsal slit, etc. He/She should be aware of those. Also preputioplasty. Here's the BAUS leaflet on dorsal slit. baus.org.uk/_userfiles/page...

Hi all you can do is go to your appointment get all the options and maybe a second opinion and then decide. What you describe is not ideal and I feel you are not happy with that which is very understandable. So get the advice and then decide.

I have undergone partial circum along with frenuloplasty 5 weeks ago. I am quite happy with the results and would say its a best of both worlds. I have foreskin covered on my glans at flaccid state and it glides back on its own during erection. Feel free to ask me any queries in relation to partial circumcision. I would definitely recommend it if you don’t want to go for full circum

at 52 i had repeated balanitis and cream didn t work anymore so i got a phimosis at the age of 54 after 40 years of sex with a retractable foreskin, and a sensitive frenulum that gave me a lot of pleasure. best way (for my urologist) to get rid of the phimosis and balanitis was circumcision , he didn t told me of partial so 2 years ago i was totaly circumcised, frenulum cut. i lost all sensitivity in frenulum area. i d say 80 % of my total sensitivity. even when i cum i don t feel the so good time when the cum is coming in the last half of my cock. if i was you i would go see at least 2 urologist and try to find one which can keep your frenulum and only partial circumcision. i really understand what zombiemember feels

Hello, I was circumcised as an adult and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. Actually, I have been circumcised twice. Once was partial, but then I had it done fully. Sex with the head fully exposed is much better. I would suggest a fully tight circumcision.

Hi. I have gone through partial circum about 5 weeks ago and so far i am liking the results. May I ask you why did you go from partial to full? Also what exactly do you mean by fully tight here?

Hello, my partner (I am a woman) was circumcised twice too before I knew him; first at 23 and then again at 29. He feels the same about his experiences as you do. It was definitely the best choice for him and I'm very pleased too.

Hello all.

Thank you for your comments.

I have an update. The urologist was very helpful. It was an NHS appointment (UK) but out sourced to a private hospital by chance- Spire Healthcare.

I have been given steroid cream to start with. I do have a short frenulum and he isn't sure if it will work.

I go back in 2 months to see him.

He talked to me about circumcision and told me due to my penis anatomy I wouldn't be tightly circumcised I'd still have skin overhanging but is a full circ not a partial.

Let's see.

Thank you

That’s good there is a plan and the doctor was helpful. Best of luck.

I think baby oil is useful... underneath foreskin. It should go back because the ridge under your foreskin is what gives her pleasure!!

I have suffered with a splitting foreskin for about 36 years. I knew at that early age I would need a circ but just didn't want to get one so I roughly forced my nearly closed foreskin back, creating a scarred phimotic band at about 12 years old. I could pull back no problem when erect after that, but always found myself pulling back to pee for a straighter aim. My frenulum band dissappeared over time, but when pulled back the head would bend quite sharply as though my frenulum was too short. Possibly a reason for my splitting problem? The phimotic ring would tear and split in places, but other times it wouldn't, which was a roller-coaster of mild but irritating pain on and off over the years.

At 48 and after reading many mens circumcision stories I decided I'd had enough of the pain, and had nothing to lose so requested an NHS urology consultation through my GP. Due to covid I heard nothing for nearly a year, that was until I chased up my consultation twice. The second time was literally 3 weeks ago. My GP must've pulled his finger out and a few strings, because I received a phone call from a private health centre the following week for a consultation. Met with the urologist, who incidentally worked between a major Local city hospital and private hospitals as a respected surgeon and urologist, and discussed what could be done. I requested exactly the amount of skin to be removed, which was basically the scarred ring, as well as frenulum removal, and to my astonishment I was fitted in for surgery about a week later. He said just tell me on the day what we're doing!

Due to covid backlog, the NHS are creating these satellite clinics to get the waiting list down for relatively fit men under local anesthetic. I am literally 5 days in post partial circumcision, and am looking forward to being pain free once this lot of pain has subsided and I am fully healed. It's your dick at the end of the day so you should have the say on what they do to it! Or am I just lucky that the surgeon agreed and respected my wishes as it wasn't in a hospital but private clinic? Either way you should have the choice. I'm proof that partials are possible on the NHS, so don't be disappointed, try and get another referral until you get what you want, otherwise it's a steep private bill outside of the NHS. Foreskin fast tracked I like to call it! Best of luck!

Don't do circumcision. U r sex life may got worse.

Do the circumcision. I had phimosis and I was on my way to penile cancer and loads of other infections. Luckily I finally built up the courage to do it at 27 years old. Good luck with everything.

I found I had male thrush! And my doctor gave me the outer cream to cure this itch and tightening of my foreskin. She also gave my Hydrocortisone 1% which has helped enormously!! So before considering getting cut you might consider seeing your GP or physician! PE

Its alway good to try stretching before surgery. If you really like to have circumcised then go ahead do it.

Correav profile image

I wouldn’t recommend it I would try stretching techniques or in the worse case scenario just have yo cut the portion that is causing the phimosis, you can still remain most of the foreskin without the phimosis usually the recovery may take at least 6 months to a year, and over time you lose sensation personally I don’t consider it a good thing, but please educate yourself and make an informed decision on what it’s best for you but I don’t believe going thru that unless it’s your last resort, wish you the best
