Yellow blistering on glans

Hi guys,

I’m now 9 days after circumcision and the last 2 days I’ve developed a yellow blister on my glans. I’m not sure if this is the start of the skin peel I’ve been reading about or whether it’s infection.

I had been diagnosed with BXO before my circumcision and hadn’t been able to retract my foreskin for the last 18 months. When I took my dressing off there were faint yellow patches on my glans which were in areas of soreness when I still had my foreskin so may be scarring but since then one of the patches has now blistered.

I have just spoken to GP regarding a split and potential infection in my stitches due to night erections and they have asked for me to email a picture so I don’t have to make the journey into the GP surgery as walking is still very sore and am hoping they prescribe some antibiotics for that.

Did anyone else have anything similar?

Hello ACIDTIGER I had the exact same issue but I noticed straight after my circumcision (which was 3 weeks ago) on my 1st week I noticed yellow discharge and crust around the stiches. I didn't really take much notice at the beginning until I noticed on the 2 week that one of the stichs has burst or dissolved and I noticed a yellow crust around the opening of the wound. Mid way through week 2 all of my stiches at the bottom has dissolved and burst because of this infection the consultant who did the circumcision isn't offering any advice or anything. So I went to A&E and they gave me antibiotics so the infection will hopefully clear out and it can get stuched back up again. (That's the plan anyway I have searched all over the Internet and it doesn't tell you what to do if this type of infection occurs just to contact your GP or a surgical team). Honestly I hope that u are not going down the same route that I have went down because I'm in a lot of pain with erections and to be honest I'm extremely worried.

Hi mate thanks for your reply. It certainly seems like I’m experiencing the same thing as you.

As suspected I had an infection. Yesterday the GP prescribed me antibiotics (flucloxacillin) which I started taking. Last night I had a terrible night and woke up in such immense pain. I phoned the GP and they had the nurse call me back who conferred with the GP and advised me to go to A&E who may be able to get the surgical team involved.

After 4 hours wait I saw the doctor who inspected me and said that I had quite a severe infection. He said didn’t think the stitches had split but the red areas that looked like flesh were in fact cellulitis which is a deep tissue infection and is pretty dangerous. He said to take the antibiotics for 72 hours and that should start to clear up the infection and bring the cellulitis under control. Even if the wound was open they wouldn’t be able to do anything until the infection had cleared up. If it doesn’t start to improve then to head back to A&E and they will likely refer me to the urology consultants care.

Feels like a nightmare and starting to wish that I hadn’t had the circumcision in the first place. The pain is immense.

Yes I know exactly how you feel at the start of my infectetion my GP prescribed flucloxacillin same as you then I got metronidzole and Co amoxiclav I have went to A & E and its sadly not good news for me. As I am being strongly advised to wait and continue with these antibiotics until the infection passes then the bottom stitches will be switched together. I'm extremely worried and in a lot of pain because of the night erections. I am going through the exact same as you regretting getting it done but I got my circumcision done because I had Phismosis (I was unable to retract the foreskin over the glans). All the best sir I hope the stitches don't get worse and burst on you. If you don't mind me asking can we keep I touch on this website as I am extremely worried and scared. I'm extremely annoyed because I got my circumcision done privately and the urologist consultant that done the circumcision hasn't talked to me since I have contacted the hospital where I got it done and they have basically ignored me. So I have been in contact with a urologist consultant and the surgical team in the NHS. "They said the infection should clear up in a few days to weeks" sorry if this is just a pile of waffle I'm annoyed. Sir so this is where I'm going to leave it for now I hope we can continue to chat on this forum though to tell each other what is happening. All the best from Jack

Hi Jack,

Sorry to hear of your experience, it seems like we have had very similar experiences.

How are things for you currently? The antibiotics seem to be helping with my infection although it is far from fully cleared up but it has helped with a lot of the soreness.

At night I’ve been taking 1 cocodamol before bed. These were prescribed after my op but I stopped taking them because they made me feel nauseous and a bit down after a few days of taking them to moved back to paracetemol. This is helping with the night erections, although they still come the pain is not too bad and I will usually get up and walk abound for a few minutes and then it’ll disappear.

My stitches don’t seem to be coming apart. The annoying part is my GP won’t see me face to face, everything has been done via phone calls and me sending pictures via email so my only hope of seeing a doctor to make sure my stitches are ok is to go and sit in A&E for a few hours. As mentioned above the red area was cellulitis and is still there although does seem to be going down slowly. My only concern is that I’ve only got 2 more days of this antibiotic course left and don’t think the infection will be gone by then.

May I ask how old you are and where you had your op?

I hope things are looking up for you. Take care, from Alex

Hello Alex I'm 22 studying in London but I had my circumcision in Manchester I am extremely happy that the infection has cleared for you. I can't say the same here I am currently going for another operation to clean out the infection since the antibiotics haven't worked as planned. So tomorrow is my operation to get the infection washed out and hopefully re-stitched I will keep u posted on how it went. Honestly if I am you I would contact you're GP and say that you only have 2 days left of antibiotics and you are worried that the infection may comeback. All the best Jack
