Day 9, some questions….

I wish there was a diary type of post just to be able to compare if everything I’m going through is as expected. My doctor told me to see him (for1st post op follow-up) two weeks after surgery so he basically has disappeared and he was like: “ if you have an emergency, call the hospital, not my office”. I was not given any written post op care instructions. All he said was to call his office the day after surgery to schedule the appointment. Besides that he advised to let water run over the penis with soap but do not apply soap directly. I kind of felt abandoned but that was not going to diss courage me from being strong and maintaining a positive attitude the whole time. In fact, I think I have been very lucky because I didn’t even need to take any or the Norco pills. Only took Ibuprofen for the first week. Nocturnal erections haven’t been that painful except for night 5 when I bled a little bit. Been naked the entire 9 days and I’m experiencing all the typical things, stitches began falling off on day 7, swelling began to reduce as of today, that white layer is progressively covering different areas as they become more exposed. Been taking 2-3 showers daily and using the blow drier for a few minutes directly on the area until I am sure it’s fully dry (I super recommend this instead of a towel). Today I went out for dinner for the first time and used a gauze taped on my penis just to cover the 6 stitches left that are on the top area due to fearing the snagging with underwear which hurts like an electrical shock. When I got back and got undressed to shower the gauze was fully covered in bright red blood and as I took it off I started dripping more blood, like one drop every second. Ran to the shower applied water and it wouldn’t stop. So I applied pressure with my hand on the base of the penis for a few minutes which totally helped. I notice the blood came from the last remaining frenulum stitch. Now I am afraid to go to sleep tonight because of the erections triggering back the bleeding. Should I call the hospital if I bleed again?

Hi,

I’m day 9 post circumcision also, so I know how you feel. Similar experience with medics also except my Doctor just said see you in 6 weeks, no earlier follow up at all! Luckily it was done privately so when I had an issue with part of a scab getting stuck to underwear & bleeding a bit, I was able to get a same day appointment at hospital where op took place, medics said it was healing normally & scab still intact...phew!

That said today it looks a bit worse, sore after more night time erections, that are relentless & seem to get stronger as the night goes on. Today had thin red line of fresh blood between glands & top of base where I assume stitching has come away. Nothing too serious but may delay full recovery a few days.

In answer to your question I wouldn’t go to hospital given you’re seeing Doctor after 2 weeks anyway unless it starts bleeding excessively or there’s clear evidence of infection, which it doesn’t sound like there is.

Recovery is certainly tougher than I expected though, thought week 1 would be very tough but things would be improving by now & much better by end of week 2. Maybe that will still be the case but as things stand can’t see mine being healed enough to return to normal exercise for a few weeks yet 😡

How are you doing? My progress has been outstanding for the last two days.

Not too bad, had my best night last night since op, still woken several times by erections & need to pee, but less discomfort from them than before & penis felt less battered 1st thing today, so hopefully worst is past in terms of night erections.

Swelling has reduced also which is great news & walking relatively discomfort free now apart from the occasional tweak of soreness or hyper sensitivity. The latter hasn’t been too bad so far and seems to be improving slowly also.

It does look a scabby, yellow mess though around stitches & up the frenulum! Think it’s all part of normal healing process, just going to take time I guess, certainly longer than the couple of weeks the Consultant indicated!

Hoping to be back running/exercising between week 3 & 4 (21-28 days post op), think that’s feasible, I’m 47 so for me that’s a bigger priority than the sex/masturbation part, which is obviously more important for the younger folk here - not to say I’m not looking forward to that bit also!

Keep in touch with your progress, nice to have a co pilot at same stage as me!

Dude I feel the same way as you do. Though let me tell you, last night I went out to a bar with some friends (couldn’t stand being another minute locked down) and I wore a Kotex. It really helped. Not bleeding but since the stitches are falling off that causes small blood spots so it was all caught there and not my underwear. I did not have that phimosis problem, so my sensitivity is not that bad at all. Have one last major stitch to go and that’s it. The swelling is almost gone. Still white coated in some areas.

Please check with ur doctor once, be there in home for one week without any underwear or gauze, let it heal completely though outer stapler and silicone ring might come out.. internal healing of the skin takes minimum 6 weeks.. to completely heal and the fresh tissue has to grow from inside.. rest all ur maintenance is good

He did not have a ZSR circumcision. He mentions stitches rather than staples.

Thank you for the replies. Last night (the 9th) went great. I did not bleed again but I woke up seven times (a high record) with hard-ons that went away immediately after peeing in the bathroom. I must say none of them were painful. At some point (as weird as it sounds) I enjoyed them and wanted to JO so bad but didn’t give in as I know I was advised not to do so until at least 4 weeks afterwards.

Im not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but it will heal faster, and with less scarring if you keep covered in Vaseline and wrapped with gauze or something. Apparently, it’s recently been found that the best environment for healing is warm and moist.

I have to say wearing tight underwear really helped keep erections under control. And it is an unfortunately familiar tale that medical advice post surgery is very slow in forthcoming .
