I steuggle to clean my penis amd I'm not sure why

Firstly I'm a 16 year old male and I'm really embarrassed to say this but I just can't clean my penis properly.

Touching any area under the foreskin is really painful to even really light pressure. It's just quick sharp pain that stops when I relieve the pressure. I don't seem to really have that problem at the tip for some reason though.

Is it normal to feel pain or is it me. It makes it really difficult to clean my penis properly or at all thoroughly, and I don't know if this is related but I struggle to get my foreskin back all the way and to stay there which only worsens things. I would do my best to just bear the pain but some of the dirt under my foreskin has formed this sort of thin layer or like film that is seemingly impossible to get off, particularly because it's painful to touch.

I feel so ashamed and I just sort of have to ignore it. I've heard somewhere that a layer of something is supposed to form on the head to prevent pain or that the foreskin detaches from the head but sometimes that doesn't happen. Could it be something like that maybe?

You need to have your penis examined by a doctor. He will be able to guide you thereafter. There is no reason to be ashamed. Penis problems can happen to any giy. The important thing is not putting off seeing a doctor or the problem could get worse if you are in the UK you can just make an appointment to see your doctor. In the US you will need to speak to one of your parents as insurance will be involved. Other countries may be different.

No I couldn't bare to do that. That's why I'm asking here as it's anonymous. I couldn't bare to, just with the state of it and smell too. Can I make my own doctors appointment on my own at 16 in the uk

in reply to RedBread

Yes you can make your own appointment without telling your parents.

I agree with Osidge. You don't want to have more problems down the road. Get it taken care of. Don't think of going to doctor is embarrassing, they've seen everything and are there to help you.

Sounds normal to me. Some guys aren't able to comfortably retract their foreskin until some time in their teenage years. You're probably just not there yet. You're not supposed to be able to retract your skin all the way back and just have it stay there; you're uncircumcised. Over time you're going to be able to retract and have it stay just beneath the head, but to go further than that--may not be possible.

And are you sure you have "dirty" under your skin? Or do you mean smegma? Try holding the skin back and having the shower water rinse it. You may have to slightly rub some of it off with your fingers as the water flows on it as well.

You paint a rosy picture which may not necessarily happen. If he is worried, it is best to have it checked to make sure it is OK. I do not remember having any issues such as he describes.

And you keep telling people to go see a doctor. Why should anyone ask or post anything to begin with if "Go see a doctor" is the response?

in reply to gr2020

A lot of problems that guys have are made worse - sometimes badly so - by not seeking timely medical attention. Part of the existence of a forum like this is to get them to use their doctor. We can suggest or talk about possible scenarios but we are not doctors and cannot diagnose. I would have hope you might have realised that.

By dirt I do mean smegma, yeah. I've tried washing it off with water in the shower bit it really isn't effective and hurts quite a bit. Rubbing it off sometimes work but is considerably more painful to bare which is what makes me think something is wrong. I'm not too sure what you mean by it naturally retracts cause I seem to be the only person I know with the problem

I've had smegma before in the past. Daily showers, especially after sex, masturbation (and even just erections in general) and rubbing with water in the shower is what got rid of mine and mine never came back. If you're not eventually able to pull your skin back to have your head and 1+ inch of your shaft exposed to clean, you should probably get a circumcision done.

However, as I've said, some guys have troubling pulling back their skin that far. It was around your age I was able to pull my skin back. Nonetheless, over my adulthood, I still ended up with balanitis on and off. I decided to get the circumcision done.

If that procedure is not on your radar, keep rubbing gently with water in the shower. No soap. Don't overdo it. Once a day for a few seconds until smegma is washed off. Apply some over-the-counter cream like Clotrimazole may help as well with irritation.

It's not irritation it's just really sensitive and despite the sensitivity I try and bare through the pain to clean it but a lot of it doesn't wash off with the amount of pressure I can bare to use. Some of its formed this thin layer that is almost like skin and it's just fuckin overwhelming me a bit

Hi, I'm another guy who suggests visiting your GP.

I know how embarrassing it is, I've been in the same situation.

I wrote a reply to another post where someone was worried. Take a look at this link.

It took me three attempts to tell the doctor my concern the first time. The post explains in more detail.

The doctors are professionals and treat you with respect.

please make an appointment if only to put your mind at ease.

Can you retract and replace without pain?

Yes it's difficult but doesn't cause pain

OK, that's good. Take a few times during the day to do that repeatedly for a few minutes That will condition the glans to touch, calming down the sensitive nerves . There's also a possibility of a yeast infection which you could take measures against by applying clotrimazole to the inner foreskin when it's retracted. Do use soap or gel to wash the glans or inner foreskin.

Did you mean to say "Don't use soap or gel to wash the glans or inner foreskin." ?

Yes. Doing so can kill the beneficial normal bacteria which help to control yeast.

has your foreskin separated from your glans recently...

Can you just go see a bloody doctor?! A GP saw my penis at 17. If you don't go, you could get a bad infection and end up needing circumcision anyway. Doctors see penises EVERY DAY. They also have numbing cream that you can put on an hour before examination- and trust me, you won't even be able to feel your dick in your pants, its like it's vanished completely.
