Circumcision Aftercare

I'm currently 10 days post op and still keeping it wrapped with Vaseline. Yesterday I tried going the day without any wrapping and vaseline but I experienced an unbearable itching sensation on the penis head,

1. Has anyone else experienced this and is it a normal part of the healing process?

2. Are there any other after care tips I should be considering at my stage of the process? I have read a bit about oils but not sure when the right time to use them is.

Generally, itching is considered a good sign that the wound is healing OK. However itching on the head sounds like it’s adjusting. Some guys get scabbing and lose a layer of skin before it settles down.

I’d say at 10 days you should be OK to carefully apply a safe, non-perfumed moisturiser on the head away from the wound if that helps combat it.

I would takes others thoughts, follow post-operative instructions. Itchy was very bothersome with sutures in. Mine fell out 12-14 days as best I remember, we all heal differently and if dissolvable sutures they break apart with gently cleansing. Nocturnal erections were difficult for me as anyone circumcised as adults. For erections, I urinated before bed, , try lying on side knees bent, I allowed air drying after day 2. I never needed or used any creams, the initial drying out on me was swelling in glans which subsided. After that the process of keratinization. Check with your Dr please before any creams. He/ she may have an idea. It’s just healing and something we all had to wait patiently do let nature do it’s part-I keep advising time as that’s what it took after my circumcision-best of luck, rapid recovery. Dr for other questions you don’t find answers to

I’m itching so bad - day 13 today ugh! But it’s a sign of healing and I’m excited. I got like 5-8 stitches maybe less left and it looks really good. Wife looked at it and she said it looks very appealing🤦🏽‍♂️ to my surprise cause she always made fun of me 😂

in reply to Ferbrizo

Sad she made fun of you before. Sutures will fall out, give them time, do not pull out beforehand. If spouse/partner finds “appealing “ and you are “excited “, I think you are on your way to a very positive life experience. Day 13 is early. As much as you want, follow Dr instructions for initiating sexual relations. Best of luck to what seems like a positive experience for you. I did not notice age or whether medical or other reason. It does not matter. The support of someone like spouse/partner is paramount to both your. sexual experience. I wish you well and speedy recovery

Thanks @REM. As of now I’m doing a 8 week total healing instead of 6 weeks. Just want to make sure I’m not messing up the healing. I’m still doing the wet healing with the bacitracin and usually when I pat it dry or remove the oil between skin and shaft the stitches fall out for themselves. Not forcefully removing them they just dissolve? I still got a few that need to come out and I’m looking forward to it because my erections are very hard and it makes me bleed a tiny bit. Very much a grower, kinda bothers me for right now

in reply to Ferbrizo

Please do not pull them out beforehand. Mine broke apart naturally, and for me fell out in shower. I personally did not use any creams, lotions or oils-let nature do it’s job. That’s me, do what Dr suggested or you feel least discomfort. You will look back on this, and maybe offer support to others. I am surprised sutures are left after 8 weeks. We all are different, as far as erections, we all had them & as uncomfortable as they ate had to let full healing. It will get better

Thanks. What the nurse told me was to use bacitracin twice daily. Not a how long I should do it for. So I been doing what’s instructed of me to do. I do shower twice a day and I at least leave the wound to air dry for a couple hours then I add the medication that way I’m not keeping it wet all the time. Some times I grab the hair dryer lol but one side looks clean and healed up the other side looks like a couple is holding the stitches and at the very top. Thankfully the ones around my frenulum fell so it’s not as annoying 🤣

in reply to Ferbrizo

Do what Dr or your nurse suggested. Frenulum was last to heal for me. Still surprised you have sutures, but they will fall out if dissolvable. Good luck, you will be fine. Best wishes & heath

Yeah, it’s kinda a surprise for me too but this morning I felt a snap from the erection so there’s more breaking or getting lose so I’m quite excited about this. Also being diabetic it probably takes a little longer for it to heal. I do heal faster than most diabetics since I keep myself under control and actually follow through with directions precisely just cause I don’t want to mess up especially for something this big. (Which is minor to some) but never had surgery before.

in reply to Ferbrizo

It’s not minor when we think of those parts of our body. Glad your diabetes is well controlled, if a suture did finally break, please do not pull it out. Mine fell out in shower or gently cleansing.-again best of luck
