Tight foreskin? Or something else?

Hi there,

Not sure if I have a tight foreskin or not. It will fully retract no problem hard or soft. I've recently become sexually active and it's become very sore. It's like something has torn. This has also happened multiple times in the past. I will try to upload a picture. How do I put a picture on here? Any help would be great. Thanks everyone so much.

Save your Hoddie, See your Family Dr, he/she will give you the best advice, Stay Safe :)

I agree with Zappa61 that a visit to the doctor and a full examination would be the best way forward. It does not sound like a standard phimosis.

Same here, see Dr for professional advice

Hi Mrman1980 ! As you describe your problem, it looks not like a phimosis, but a too short frenulum. The frenulum is the small strap located under the glans, which attaches your foreskin to the balano-preputial groove behind the glans. It is very common for a young virgin to be very or too short. Do not worry ; the frenulum will gradually lengthen with sexual activity. You can also help things out by doing manual progressive stretching exercises for the frenulum.

When the frenulum is very short, during the first sexual intercourse, it is normal that it tears slightly, because your GF's vagina "pulls" on it. It can cause slight pain, and sometimes small bleeding. The boy then has the impression that something has indeed "torn". There is no need to worry. It heals quickly. The unpleasant thing is that it can happen many times, including during masturbation. And this will happen again until the frenulum has acquired sufficient length to withstand intercourse without having to undergo these micro-ruptures. However, in this configuration, one should avoid having energetic or vigorous relationships. Because this could then cause a more blunt rupture of the frenulum, which itself, perhaps painful and generally bleeds quite profusely due to the inherent rupture of the frenular arteriole. In order not to come to that, 1) Be gentle, considerate, 2) Practice lengthening exercises of the frenulum.

Finally, if the frenulum persists in tearing or in being painful, it is possible to remove it, either by frenulectomy performed by a doctor.

So well informed and helpful. That was not my case. I could easily retract my excessive foreskin. My frenulum was extremely and I mean very thick, and long. It was painful, resulting in full circumcision and total frenulum removal-good luck thank you

This is such bad advice it shouldn’t be posted.

I know first hand that stretching your frenulum during sex is painful and puts you off having sex in future, it can (and in my case has) ruin a relationship.

I doubt if self-stretching works and if it did it would take many months to achieve very little. The frenulum isn’t as elastic as surrounding tissue.

Tears are a nightmare and merely lead to an injured and scarred frenulum (which is even less elastic).

Directly underneath the frenulum there is a blood vessel that can (and often does) rupture causing a shocking amount of bleeding and a possible visit to the emergency room.

Best course of action is to see a doctor, get a referral for a frenulectomy or frenuloplasty. It’s a quick procedure done under a local with a painless recovery (in my experience) and the outcome is next level.

Don’t try home surgery for reason above and it’ll never be as tidy as a surgeon’s handiwork.

I'm not a doctor, I'm someone who suffered from a short frenulum for years without realising there was such a condition, I thought everything was normal. I eventually went to my doctor and was referred to a urologist to get it sorted. On that basis whilst not being an expert, I can draw on personal knowledge and first-hand experience.

I'm in the UK (as are many on this forum) where we have a good healthcare system.
