Opinions please - scarring does not stop forming

Hi guys this will be my last post in a while as I’m at a dead end and looking at chronic pain long term from a frenulectomy/frenuloplasty I had 7 months ago.

I’ve had 3 opinions now from 3 different urologists.

1. Original surgeon said he doesn’t know why I’m having pain. I shouldn’t be having this , he’s done the operation 1000 times etc. I asked about the increasing amount of scarring that seems to be forming in the affected area and he shrugs and says all surgery leaves scars. He threw me sleeping pills and anti inflammatory drugs that do nothing.

2. Second urologist said the area looked normal but that was 4 months ago before this throbbing nerve pain started. He said I’m ultra sensitive and he’s seen some people take 18 months for things to get back to normal. I don’t know what to make of this.

3. Public sector urologist looked at it and said there is way more scarring than there should be. Nerves heal slower and the cut nerves heal back causing pain because scarring has already formed. I should be looking at this from a chronic pain perspective from now on. There’s nothing he can do.

I’m in tears almost every night because lying in bed hurts like hell. I don’t Even care if I can’t have non painful sex anymore. I know that sounds dramatic but I just want the everyday pain to stop. I can’t sit for long periods of time. Sports are out because of chafing.

I attached some pictures. You can see the diamond shaped affected area that was expanded to separate the frenelum and the scarring down the right side and the top near the glans in probably the most sensitive area of the penis. The scaring is now spreading to the middle so that it will eventually cover the entire area. Not just be one line down the middle.

Was this a botched job because of all the scarring? The third urologist said there shouldn’t be that much. I do t trust what my surgeon said because he never would admit that the job was done poorly.

Apologies for the long winded message. I have no one to turn to other than my wife , who has been an angel but also doesn’t understand completely because she isn’t a man.

Has anyone had this? When the scarring settles will this pain go away? I’m only applying bio oil.

Thanks guys

Does anyone know how to post pictures? there is no option to do so.

in reply to Lucasash

Pictures are not allowed on the forum.

In view of the nerve pain, you could consider seeing a neurologist or, to look at the scar tissue, a dermatologist.

I wish you well. Hope you get sorted.

The first most important thing is your health and mental health. Please ask for help and make sure you have a good support network. Hi-5 to your wife.

As difficult as it seems, trusting your doctors is important but it’s also important to keep asking questions and seek other professional opinions if you’re not happy. Urologists in Australia are far FAR better than circ clinics and public health clinics. Do your research on who and what your best options are wherever you live.

Here’s what I do know. Nerve pain can come and go and scaring forming can in some cases pinch on nerves. I hope you are not in the rare case scenario of permanent pain. I’ve had shooting nerve pains and needle like nerve pains as part of my recovery for not just this procedure now, but other surgery on other body parts prior. It’s sucks, but mostly normal as your body adjusts to changes. I am only in week 6 and I do still have/get shooting nerve pains but not like what you are coping with.

I would talk to your urologist about exploring possibilities like numbing creams and scar healing creams, or in extreme cases, steroids, but these may not be suitable for you. Your doctors and specialist are still your best option.

The other thing is, review what you are doing for possibilities to help yourself. No need to reply, these are just suggestions:

Review your underwear, sex, masturbating and how you’re coping with the pain (for example, for the shooting pains I would naturally pull/stretch or put pressure on my penis because nerve pain is horrible). Could any of these things be a contributing factor? Maybe not, but I hope this helps your line of thinking to get you on the right track.

Sincerely hope you get it sorted, ask all the right questions and look after you!

I had done ZSR CIRCUMCISION before 6 months ago. I think having same problem.

I can do intercourse without any problems but i can not touch my glance by my own head because hand makes me feel bad irritation on my glane(cut part and glance both) my doctor said i habe super sensitive skin and so it take long time like 8-12 months. I can't understand why i can't touch my glance by my hand. It's damn sensitive like 20% sensitivity not going for 6 months but as doctor said i have to give more time and said nothing to worry. Doctor did check up and said nothing to worry. Just give time because of super sensitive skin type i have.one thing i tell that after my circumcision, doctor told me that i have very thick skin layer when he cut off my glance skin at operation time.

I replied to your previous post in depth so won't here, but basically it sounds like we had the same op and now have the same pain - unrelenting burning and slicing sensation. My GP prescribed Instillagel local anaesthetic. It's the only thing that gets me through the day, allows me to concentrate, and feel calmer - though it's bloody messy. Chronic pain services are going to trial me on more drugs, (possibly tens machine) etc, soon. I'm just waiting for it to happen around COVID. I'll post again if any of it helps.

I know what its like to feel alone. My wife made me tell my mate. It has been helpful to have a bloke to talk to though i did feel very vulnerable. But now I have someone who doesn't judge me for being so grumpy, so its good.

Hope you get some relief soon
