Have thought about getting circumcised for a long time. My dad was circumcised but put me off when I was 8 years old. Then years later he thought I had already had the op.
I live in Devon and the NHS tell me I will need to arrange it privately. What is the likely cost and how long should I take off work.

It is between £500 to £650 depending on what you are having done (frenulum removal etc). I had a day off work when I had mine done. Why do you want to have it done?
If you want to do something, just do it. Research all aspects, listen to all sides. Then you can make an informed decision, one that is best for you and what you want.
Do some thorough research before you make your decision.
You can't go back !
I had almost three months off work on the recommendation of Occupational Health Dept'. It depends on the type of work you do, and of course how you feel in yourself.
If it's something you want, and many men do, then you should definitely get circumcised. Don't allow the anti-circumcision people here, and elsewhere to discourage you. If you don't have it done, you'll always be wondering what it's like being circumcised. I had an adult circumcision 6 months ago and can say I'm loving it more each day. The sensation I've gained is awesome. It's a very low risk procedure, well worth it with many benefits.
Many men have no pain at all, and for the ones who do, it's very slight and brief. Most guys return to work the next day. There was no pain at all with mine, and I didn't even need to take the medications I was prescribed, just in case. There was no bleeding, and it healed quickly. If the foreskin is so important, why do so many men say sex is much better after getting circumcised? You sound very envious of the guys getting circumcised, like you're trying to repress your own feelings of wanting it done, but are afraid to do so. Maybe a therapist could help you to sort things out.
Alternatively if it does not go well - and the stories are in this forum - or you do not like it there is no way to recover your foreskin. Think well and be prepared to live with whatever it brings. Good luck.
If you want to get circumcised and don't, you will never know what it would have been like. I feel the slight risk is worth while, especially if someone has phimosis or some other related problem. I almost didn't get circumcised, and I think all the time about I would have missed. I'm loving every moment of it, and for me it was an elective and cosmetic procedure.
Recovery can be difficult, though some people have no problems. I had a second circumcision done when I was 20 and I had no pain at all in recovery. A lot of people post on here because of the difficulties they’ve had - I suspect most people don’t have those difficulties.
Do some research. If you do opt for circumcision then make sure you get someone very well respected. I would be surprised if it cost quite as high as the top end mentioned above.
I was quoted anywhere from $500-$2000. I ended up paying $800 for the procedure and took 4 days off from work. It's something I've thought about doing for 16 years. Now in my mid 30s I just decided to go ahead and do it. I can't say that it's as great as I thought it would be but I also don't have any regrets. And hopefully it will get better over time as I'm about 8 weeks in and there are still some things that should return to normal. At the end of the day you have to decide how important it is to you. Once you do that, the cost and the recovery won't really matter if you believe you made the right choice for yourself.
