I'm 58 and not had a period for about 5 years. This is my second shot at HRT and started on a low dose patch and the progesterone tablet. Nine days in and I've got blood again, not a lot but it was on the tissue in the loo. I've had all the tests and checks for the previous bleeding, hysteroscopy etc and nothing sinister is going on. I was told it's the HRT. Why is this happening? I need the HRT to feel human again and can't beat the thought of not being able to take it.

it can take three months for your body to settle into hrt and you can get breakthrough bleeding. If it continues after that, your hrt may need tweaking
It can take a minimum of three months to settle, your introducing hormones back into your body have they put you on continuous progesterone? They should of done if not.
the reason for the bleeding is the progesterone is shedding the lining of your womb That's what happens during a normal menstrual period
If you were only on estrogen you may develop hypoplasia - a build up of the lining of the womb - with that comes a risk of it turning cancerous
That's why women are given progesterone along side estrogen
Are you on a bioidentical progesterone?
Not what you're looking for?
