Hot flushes and night sweats

Hi everyone I would like some advice please. I had been in HRT for 22 years (implants) but when I moved 8 years ago I couldn’t find a gynaecologist to do implants so I decided to stop using HRT. All was fine for 4/5years then I suddenly start having flushes during the day and night sweats which have got progressively worse. My doctor has suggested that I use low dose HRT patches. Oestrogen only has I have had a hysterectomy. I’m 71 years old - I’m wondering whether it’s likely to cause any unwanted side effects due to my age?

The topical oestrogen doesn’t seem to come with side effects (for me anyway) as it’s a very mild way of getting the oestrogen we need and doesn’t come with the same risks. I use the Lenzetto spray and have found it very beneficial I hope you get some relief the patches x

Thanks for the reassurance. I was concerned about the risk of stokes and blood clots due to my age. I suppose all meds come with some downsides. Weighed against quality of life it’s worth the risk

The blood clot risk is nothing like the oral hrt and it’s matching our natural oestrogen not like the contraceptive pill that is a chemically made oestrogen so that’s why the topical hrt is a lot safer. For example example when I had surgery on the pill I was told to stop it for 6 weeks prior to surgery due to blood clot risk but when I had surgery on the hrt spray there was no mention of stopping it or any blood clot risks. I hope that helps ease your worries x
