Is anyone else having trouble being prescribed Premarin, I have been denied my repeat prescription on grounds of ethics .I have been taking this HRT for 30 years plus ,I am now 74 and on the lowest dose.I have tried patches and other drugs but Premarin has been the best for me.Two weeks ago I was sent Elleste Solo 1 mg ,within 48 hrs I felt nauseous, hot flushes , severe headaches and swollen ,sore breasts.I stopped taking and rang the surgery for an appointment to see the HRT nurse,no appointments for 3 weeks!some of the symptoms have gone , but the hot flushes are unbearable, every 10/15 mins 24 hrs.Im so tired.😪

I was put on elleste in my mid 40s and developed an awful reflux reaction to the lactose in it. I’m pretty sure it contributed me growing fibroids. A locum took me off it when I started having 2 periods a month and diagnosed Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism. Haven’t been on HRT since am now 50 and just started using estradiol.

Write to your MP, I wrote to mine a while back about the pharmacy messing me around and he had the local health board contact all local pharmacies give them training, and a letter from the then minister for health confirming I was right and the GP and pharmacies needed to do as I was asking! 💪💪 very empowering.

Take them on, write to the practice manager too. If a patient is well then no changes should be made. 🌱

So sorry Peachrose17 that you are suffering like this it is awful. I am 70 and being treated exactly the same I had a hysterectomy over 35yrs ago and was on oral Hrt until recently my GP stopped my repeat prescription and I was beside myself. I went to a NHS Menopause Specialist this year as I was hardly functioning 1st thing she told me was she wouldn't prescribe oral Hrt to me . I am on Estrodot patches but I dont think I absorb them very well . I am still suffering the anxiety is crippling me and I'm having flushes and night sweats again. I only seen the Menopause Specialist once then one telephone call and she discharged me saying my GP can treat me from now on but I have no confidence in them as I had to demand to see the Menopause Specialist myself. I've tried stopping Hrt many times but my symptoms return I suffer with Anxiety, Depression, Fibromyalgia, Underactive Thyroid and IBS with fecal accidents. This gets all too much at times and I feel overwhelmed with it all. Please let me know how you get on I do hope your GP will listen to you and prescribe what you need sending you love and hugs.xx

So sorry to hear all your problems, just because we’re in our 70s doesn’t mean we’re still not suffering.!

That sounds brutal, but I relate. My doctor tried everything. Now I'm 80 yrs old and have hot flashes daily if I don't sit in front of a fan. WHY HAS NO ONE FOUND A CURE BY NOW! Or at least a long-term treatment that's safe. Or a supplement. After 25 years on HRT I developed triple positive breast cancer (2015) so NO more estrogen for me. At my worst I had hot flashes almost every hour, day and night and was on the floor from weakness. They sucked the life out of me. So at least I've improved. Sorry for the rant. I'm so sorry for you and I wish I could help. For a while I took DHEA supplements and they seemed to help. You could try that. I read about some risks so I stopped. But pharmaceuticals are powerful and not always the best answer, as you've found out.
