hello, I am new here and I don’t really know what I am feeling at the moment. This happened bout almost after spring break when I returned to my studies. I feel as if I have no friends and I feel like I can’t talk to my family about this because I fear what they might have to say. I also feel like everyday is the same and that night time comes too fast. I’m going on a trip toward June and not sure if I will still be feeling like this or not.

Hello. What you're describing could very well be depression. You mentioned your studies; most schools offer councilor's services to their students. If you feel like things are overwhelming, that emotions or the energy to get by just aren't there, or you are burning out perhaps consider giving them a call. 🙂 Best of luck.

In Chinese there is a great expression called "roujiu pengyou" meaning more or less meat and beer friends. Even though I no longer eat much meat or drink much beer, the expression still resonates. Being in college, I think it could be helpful for you to find some meat and beer friends, or in other words, people to do activities together with that all of you enjoy. Are you a member of any clubs or intermural sports teams? Are you involved in any activism or groups that volunteer and support the local community. Not knowing what you are feeling sounds to me like you are trying to find some purpose, or else struggling to find some purpose. Are you excited about your major? Is there any way that you can volunteer or do paid work for one of your professors that you admire? Do you have a part time job that you enjoy? I think that a large part of finding friends is finding people that enjoy the same things that you do. Find people that enjoy the same activities as you and there is a good chance they eventually will start to make some more meaningful friends. Trying to make days more interesting for you. Attend lectures on random topics and in different fields and ask questions. Go to new places and meet new people? Can you do a semester at another university, perhaps in another country? Try to discover what excites you and pursue that.
