Moment of madness

runningnearbeirut profile image

Hello everyone - haven't posted for a very long time, but I'm still here and running 5k occasionally and doing some (fairly) regular strength training.

Anyway, in a moment of madness, I've signed up to run 10k in the Beirut marathon (delayed from November to May because of the war). The 5k didn't seem enough of a challenge but I really haven't done much running recently, so 10k on May 1st could be asking a bit much... aiming to run the whole distance if possible.

Pros - by the sea, flat course, start at 7am so shouldn't be ridiculously hot

Cons - 5 weeks to prepare... oops

Did 6k this morning (random holiday), so am hoping to build that up and be able to finish in one piece...

Hi there, good to hear from you. 6k now? 10k in 5 weeks? No problem! You've got this. A steady increase of 1km a week will get you there. What a great motivator 😊

I was about to say the same, especially if your usual runs are still hilly ones. You can do this !🙂

Well my last runs have been very few and far between - and flat. But I do think the strength training has paid off. 1km a week increase it is!!

Good luck ! If you’re at 6 k right now you’ll be fine by then by adding 1k a week as everyone has suggested. The race gives you an incentive to lengthen one of your runs a wweek. 🙂

10k shouldn’t be an issue. If you need help the NRC app has a 6week 10k training plan and if you’re already doing 6k you should be able to skip a week or 2. Best of luck 👍

Hi there 👋 great to see you again!

I believe that if you can run 7K in training then you can run 10K on the day. Good luck and let us know if you want to be included in our pompom post for the Friday beforehand.

Hi m’dear, how lovely to see a post from you (I’m scarcely on here myself nowadays) Hope life is treating you well. I wondered if you were still in Beirut and still running - seems the answer is yes and yes, which is marvellous news. You’ve got this! Good luck.
