A little advice please πŸ™

Hi, so I'm training for my first HM..

and doing good on my plan.. I've ran two 10Miles to date and just increasing by the 10% rule..

My last two weeks runs have been..

Monday 10K

Wednesday 5K

Friday 10 Miles

Monday 5K

Wednesday 10K

Saturday (today) 5K

I have booked a 10K race on the 17th of this month two weeks away..,

Now I've ran plenty 10Ks so the distance doesn't faze me..

But my question is.. should I be upping from my 10 Miles or even running another 10Mile before my race?

I'm just a bit worried about burning out.. I feel good and think I could manage another long run towards end of next week..I'm not it too much of a hurry to reach my HM , should I just keep to 10 K ? Or would running another 10 Mile towards end of the week give me an advantage setting myself up for the race...then just do a couple of 5Ks on the week leading up to it?

Thanks 😊

Stats are today's 5K splits πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜„

Speaking from a complete lack of knowledge I would think your speeds are so good that you could just stick to the 10k till after the race..but what so I knowπŸ€”

Thanks Mormor1, this is the pace I aim for on a 5K my split's.... on a 10K and more they are around 8min/K 🀣

So your first ever race is going to be a HM? WOW πŸ™Œ Respect 😍 I done a wee 5k race for Life years ago.. was a really hot mid July mid day run after just graduating my first time..I didn't enjoy it at all 🀣

Haha! I did the exact same thing. Baking hot July day running round a dusty, once grass, path! Hated every minute of it - until I got my bottle of water and my bling, then I was straight off to find another race 😍

I know...😱...I refuse to over think it....I had a few broken times on my run journey and ended up seeing an amazing sport therapist...she said "why not" so I did and it's given me a bit of structure and accountability

I still think your run was fab...if I can follow in your footsteps I will be a happy runner πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

You can so do this Bubblebird.. I got so close today .. 20K .. made a total mess of the end, reading my Garmin wrong 😝Can't lie the last 3K were really tough.. but slowed (didn't have much choice by then) πŸ˜‚

It was just as tough mentally! But knowing you're just about to finish a HM Spurs you through.. I shouldn't have jumped from 10Miles to 20 K but I'm a stubborn woman, once I have a challenge in my head I've got to achieve it,

Just remember to take on board all you've learned so far.. and you will be great!!!

You've got plenty time to prepare πŸ™πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Thanks sparky66 I am just going slow and steady....no aspiration other than to finish in permitted time....which I have no clue....looking forward to hearing how your race goes next week . Good luck 😁😁

I'd say the main thing is to make sure you keep to a really easy pace in the week leading up to your 10k race. It might be worth looking at a few 10k plans to see what they show for the tapering leading up to the event.

Seems you're well set up for it!

I'd say do whichever you fancy! You're well placed for a 10k race already. Running easy for a couple of weeks will keep your legs fresh and you will be fine. On the other had, it's over a week since your last 10 miles, so if you run that distance (or even slightly longer) early this week, you still give yourself 10 days to recover for your 10k.

But if I had to make a decision rather than sit on the fence, I'd say stick with 10k or under until after race day (purely because you aren't in a hurry to hit HM distance so why risk an injury or a blister or tired legs that would spoil the 10k?).

I'd suggest you "taper off" the activity a little in the last week so you have fresh legs on the day.

This morning would have been the Manchester 10K, my first ever race event, had they not postponed it again to October 31st.

Yeah I think as linda9389 said I will likely go a longer run early in the week then taper off the week before.. makes sense, Ooh no how frustrating your run's been postponed again! 😣

I'd be gutted if mine doesn't go ahead, especially having booked accommodation for it 😏

Hopefully things start to move ahead soon πŸ™
