I was inspired yesterday, after reading cheeky chipmunks post Bath half marathon account. I'd been trying to build up to a 2nd HM but weather and stuff has got in the way of consistent longer run increments. I've kept up with the 5-10k runs pretty regularly. Yesterday I thought I'd just go for a longer one and see how I felt. After 6k I reached the sea, so had a quick dip. I have to do that every time I run because when I heat up I start itching the dreaded hives. Then I got warm again on the next 9k so managed 15 in all. Does it count if you have a 10 minute break? Most of those 10minutes are spent trying to get dressed on a cold, windy beach with very cold hands impeding progress!I was pleased I'd done it, didn't feel particularly stiff, not more than normal anyway, and shall now do 2 shorter runs this week. So .... sometimes, not following the plan works! Thanks for all the inspiring accounts, they really help me to keep going.

Happy to have inspired you Mormor1 ! I love your dip in the sea break, and yes I’m sure that counts. Bet it was lovely, albeit chilly. 🥶

I’ve had a shameful morning so far. I’ve had an almond croissant and a glazed doughnut. I can’t keep using my HM run at the weekend as an excuse for much longer can I? 😂

Not too much longer! After my run yesterday I had a large piece of barn brack (fruit loaf flavored with whiskey and tea, from Ireland) then I went and did the shopping and had a big jam donut as a reward!

ooh, lovely Barmbrack 😋And what about Veda??? I usually bring some home with me when I visit my mum 🥰

I e neva had Veda but it looks like a rather gluey UK equivalent! I make a brack as soon as I run out of the last.. which will be tomorrow as I've just polished off the last of the current one.

Veda is a malt loaf and truly delicious 😊 Enjoy your loaf!

You choose your distance and then run it “virtually” with other VRBs. Fab fun 🤗

I'll definitely check it out. I did the virtual 10k during COVID. The virtual bit suits me as I always run alone preferring it that way.

A quick dip? I march? I thought I was bonkers having a paddle... And of course it counts if you have a 10 minute break to have a dip and dress after

Thanks SueAR...it's the first winter I've swung in the sea , all the way through unless it's really rough. Especially in runs it cools me down which helps with the hives. So glad it still counts as a complete run.

I might try it next year, build up to it from the summer but that north sea is cold

Yes, you definitely have to just keep going from when the sea is warmer. I think the water temp is about 6c now, Which is warmer than most mornings! What makes the difference is if there is a cold wind so you actually get colder trying to let clothes back in. I wear wet suit socks instead of ordinary when I start off.. saves the faff of getting them in at the sea!

It definitely counts if you have a little break. You still ran a HM . And threw in a swim. All you need now is to get a cycle in too.

Haha, only 9miles Dexy, but on the way. So glad it still counts including the swim break.

It definitely counts ... that's a 15k run with additional cross training. Count? It was over and beyond 💪

Well done, you’re brave going in the sea. 2 degrees here this morning.

Fantastic! It definitely counts if you stop for 10 minutes. In fact I think going for a dip in the cold sea halfway through means it counts double. You are a very hardy individual!👏👏👏

Thank you RiceandPeas....it's keeping going in the Autumn that's the trick. And that I live only 4.5k from the east coast and I can get straight into deep water.
