⭐️⭐️⭐️Important Edit:

After a winter of discontent (largely down to bad weather events and even badder bugs) that has caused may people to fall behind where they planned to be, we have decided to add a 5K option to this February run - introducing HU10+5 !!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey folks!!!

Time has flown since our initial announcement and there are now just fourteen days between us and our first event this year - an interim HU10 to help us on our way to our main spring HU event in eleven weeks time. You can join us for one or other, or both!

Are you in for this first event in two weeks? If so, please let us know in the replies below and I will add you to our start list which you can find here: docs.google.com/spreadsheet...

Remember to let us know whether you fancy the 10k or 10 miles option so we can prepare the appropriate bib for you (no worries if you decide to change at the last minute).

For me it will be a training run on the way to my half, for others it will coincide with an actual event, for others it will be a goal or milestone run. HU10 - your run, your way!

🥰 Important note: EVERYONE is welcome. New to 10k, or not. Fast runner or slower. Whether you intend to run, run/walk or walk. This is an inclusive event, an opportunity get together and experience the full support and sense of community, fun and friendliness our fitness forums offer! 🥰

No new playlist for this one (we'll put up a request post for tracks for a new one for the main event shortly), but here are links to a couple of our previous HU member compiled spotify playlists:

open.spotify.com/playlist/2...

open.spotify.com/playlist/3...

We look forward to lots of you joining us on the HU start line in approximately two and/or eleven weeks! Reply below to let us know 🥰

(N.B. If you replied to the first post, please check whether your name is down correctly on the start list: I've added names where it was clear you were up for both events, but I didn't add your name if I wasn't sure if you were only up for the main event)

In case you missed our earlier announcement, full details ⬇️.

From your team,  Irishprincess ,  Beachcomber66 and me x

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~

⭐📢📢We are ready to host our next HU virtual event: HU spring 25 📢📢⭐

~~~
Main event: Sunday 27th April at 9:30am (as always, we realise the date/time might not work for everyone; so in order to give greater flexibility we will accept runs at any time on Sunday 27th April, or at any point during the following week of Monday 28th to Sunday 4th May). This time you will give the option of 10k, 10 miles, HM or Metric Marathon (26.2k). By my calculations, that gives us almost fourteen weeks to train for the main event!!!
This year we will also hold an interim event as you train for the main distance. This will be held on Sunday 23rd February (again, to be flexible, we will accept runs at any time on Sunday 23rd February, or at any point during the following week of Monday 24th to Sunday 2nd Mar). This event will give the option of running 10K or 10 miles. By my calculations, that gives us almost five weeks to prepare for the interim event!!!
This year we will also try to focus on strength training alongside your actual run training. There are of course lots of wonderful resources available on our sister Strength & Flex forum which you can find here healthunlocked.com/strength... , but we hope to provide some gentle nudges, encouragement and motivation (for those who think they could benefit from it) over the next few weeks.
For anyone who hasn't come across one of our events before:
In short we pick a date and invite our VRBs to cover a given distance, running or walking, wherever they choose! We nominate a date for the event, give you a selection of distances to choose from and look forward to reading your race reports. If you can set off at the nominated date and time, you have the added boost of knowing we are all on the virtual HU start line together - running on our own, but definitely not alone; if you can't make that specific date you will have another week in which to complete your distance.
How does it work?
★ If we receive enough suggestions, we will compile a main event playlist based on your submissions 🎶
★ You can use any of our existing ‘HU run experiences’ using RunGo (some people liked them, others were less keen! Think pantomime version of Nike guided runs!) 😊😊😊
★ We will even make race bibs available (so long as you have a printer at home!).
★ Finally, we will of course have a winner! In the past, the winner has been the person who completed their run in the time closest to our randomly generated time (after the event closes). Maybe you have a more creative suggestion, but however we choose, we will ensure there is absolutely no requirement to run fast to win this event! 🐌🏆Do let us know if you have a more creative suggestion!
As always, this event is of course entirely free to enter and yet again, there are no t-shirts, socks, aid stations or toilet queues! No training plans or routes will be supplied! Instead, a unique HU experience, run your way 😍
If you're currently running around 5k, this may encourage you to push to 10k. If you're running at 10k, perhaps it will give you the boost to get to the magic 10 miles. Maybe it will inspire you to push to Half Marathon or even to give the Metric marathon a go in a couple of months time. If you're running beyond, perhaps you can use it as one of your speed runs! If ... well, you can use your imagination 😍
Instructions for how to enter will follow soon, but feel free to start planning your training now! We hope you’ll be eager to join in (and help make this another fun event)
~~~

We look forward to lots of you joining us on the HU start line in approximately two and/or eleven weeks! 🥰

Please put me down for 10K in February and 10 miles in April. I'm not going for anything further because it turns out the February event is one week before a marathon and the April event one week after another marathon!

linda9389 profile image

Ooh, you're going to be busy!!! So a 10k taper and a 10 mile shake out it is then 😊

Hi Linda; thanks for all this; that is a lot of work!! This is an easy one for me. I will go for 10k. I won’t be ready for 10 miles in two weeks time having just built back up to 10k. I managed a sub 30 minute 5k on Saturday (a friend dragged me to a Park Run!) so maybe I can find a bit of additional 10k pace too. All helps the longer runs in the end. I think that I am starting with a cold on top of everything else…..getting all my excuses in early👍

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply toBeachcomber66

Oh no, not a cold! Fight!!!I'll put you down for 10k BC, the sensible choice (of course 😍)

A wise choice Sue. All to look forward to 😊

I get silent migraines only: just visual aura. Thankfully they only last about 15 minutes from the initial central fuzziness to the disturbance leaving my peripheral vision.

Not nice though - especially if you happen to be driving! Nausea and headaches for me too, but definitely not as bad as some poor folk suffer.

Hello Linda and team, thanks for all the work towards this.

I’m not going to be as prepared as I thought I would be due to the current dreaded lurgy . But I should be OK to do a 10k at a slower pace by then. I’m not running parkrun on the 22nd as I am organising a Food Bank Run, so will do it on the Sunday or a few days later depending on weather forecasts.

linda9389 profile image

That's the spirit Dexy - slow is good, a gentle 10k to show you're in charge and not the dreaded bugs. Feel better soon xxx

Also, put me down for the 10 miler in April - I guess we can move up or down, depending on how training goes?!!🙂

Fantastic Linda! Looking forward to it

I am going to stick to my 10k decision for two weeks time. I have got a two and a half hour run on my plan that day so it may well turn into 10+ miles. I’m still trying to figure out how to wrap that around the London Winter 10k, so we’ll just stick with the bit I know I’m definitely doing 😅 and the rest will just happen… It’s all too complicated when you’ve got a race sandwich! 🥪

Metric marathon for an actual marathon on the 27th. At least that should be pretty straightforward!

Thank you for organising 🙏

Morning linda9389 👋 I hope your migraine didn’t last too long. I’ve only had one years and years ago, and I remember it being agony. ☹️

Please pop me down for 10k on the 23rd (London Winter Run for me too 😀) and I’m going to revise my initial plan and do 10 miles in April. There, said it. 😳 Hopefully after doing the Bath Half in March it’ll seem “easy”. Of course it won’t, but psychologically it should!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply tocheekychipmunks

Thanks Cheeky. It feels much clearer today.Have a blast at LWR, and I'm loving the 10 mile commitment for April 🥰

lincolnoldie profile image
lincolnoldie

Please put me down for 10k for both. I am in France for most of the next two weeks and the hills always cause motivational problems do likely to be little of no running. Then three weeks holiday in Costa Rica in March is likely to lead to little of no running so I won't push it to 10 miles.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply tolincolnoldie

That sounds very sensible. I remember running in Costa Rica a couple of years ago! Hot for sure, sometimes wet too. I love running when I'm away, but it does have its challenges for sure! Have a wonderful trip, it's an amazing place 🥰

I am training for the Cambridge HM on 9th March, I have 11k on my plan the week after 23rd, so I'll be able to join in with you all at some point. That'll be ok won't it? If I run 11K but give you my 10K time?

I’m already down for the 10K on the 23rd Linda as that’s that London Winter Run. Not sure yet about the second distance. If the 10 mile race goes ok at the beginning of March (week after LWR 😮 Why did I do that?) then I’ll go for a HM in April, but I’ll let you know.

Many thanks for doing all this work for us. It looks brilliant 👍

My decision fell into place this morning as I was struggling to get myself out of bed for yet another day with too much to do: I need to adjust my path to my goal of a 10 miler - and take a bit longer...

So! Please sign me up for the 10K for the early event (I'll run it on March 1st) and the 10 miler for the main HU event (I'll run in on May 2nd).

HI Linda! Sorry to be slow to reply, been juggling half a ski holiday with Gap Year "issues" resulting in my 19yo daughter unexpectedly appearing on my doorstep for a few days from Indonesia!

All sorted now, so yes please, I would like to do a training 10km next week at the interim event, just about covering the distance, nothing else at this stage as running has been a bit interrupted. Depending how that goes, still keeping options open on 10k or 10M for end of April, if that's ok?

THANKS for all your help and support! Great to have this motivator, and with Spring possibly on the way, it will hopefully be a pleasant experience.
