Another bash at the Spring 10K route.

Some of you will remember that I struggled with strong winds on my HU Spring 10K run in February, today I decided to give it another go. Same route, same 2 mins 1 min run/walk along the tow path....

Well, there was very little wind today, but I hadn't realised it was the Cambridge Boundary Marathon race... never a dull moment in Cambridge! Hundreds of runners along the narrow tow path, loads of fun! Of course, I let them have right of way, but I doubt they slowed me down by much. Of course, it's only 1 week since my HM, so my legs are a bit whingey.

My time? 1:27. - 6 mins faster than my effort in Feb, and probably faster than my all-running 10K time, but I wouldn't have moved up at all on the HU table.

Still, I gave it another go, it was interesting!

That’s a really good loosener/follow up to your HM CG2, despite the unanticipated cavalry charge. In my book those runs more about recovery than timings; unless the time is better than anticipated in which case whoppeee!! 6 minutes improvement is brilliant πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ₯‡

Thank you! I may have pushed a bit harder than I should have actually, but it felt ok...

Well done Curlygurly,

That is very interesting for me too. I ran an interval run today where I ran the first 5 mins then ten lots of 2mins run 1 min walk. This is training for my 10k on 6th April. A time of around 1.27 for the 10k would be very pleasing to me.

I felt I could have run longer intervals, but I was getting tired. Is this your favourite ratio?

So pleased to have seen this, and looking forward to trying for a longer run next time.

Well done on your 10k on that busy towpath!

Thank you. Yes, it's my preferred ratio, I've tried others - I've read 30 secs recovery is the best, but I keep coming back to 2/1. I ran the first KM or thereabouts of my HM last week, more to not get in peoples way really. If I feel good, I might run through a rest period, especially if it's down hill, but this works for me, over any distance it seems.

let me know how it works for you, good luck for your 10K Xx

Must have felt good to do that run without the wind.....6 minutes is a huge difference too

Oh yes, that wind sapped all my energy, and made me fear being blown in the river, it's a narrow tow path!

Well done CG, that’s a great improvement! No doubt you’ll carry on can use this route as a little test run every now and again, hopefully without loads of marathon runners 🀣

Yes, I used to use it a lot more, not sure why I stopped really. It's a nice round 10K to the lock and back.

Oh yes, I remember why I stopped! They redid the gravel, it was like running on marbles! That has been squashed down a bit now.

Wow well done. 6 minutes faster is a lot, a week after your half it's a major achievement (I know, because I ran 10k this weekend too, and it wasn't faster than anything 😎)

Ah but your HM was MUCH faster than mine!

But that's not a sensible comparison 😍I know it was hard for me to run 10k a week after a HM, and I didn't run faster than any of my 10ks.

You ran faster. I know that's a great achievement πŸ₯°
