We set off really early on Sunday morning and headed up the M3 to the lovely town of Weybridge in Surrey. I was very pleasantly surprised at just how beautiful this area is. Lots of small lakes and tributary rivers feeding into the Thames. Fabulous houses fronting on to the water.
Lovely and sunny with a temperature of 22 degrees C. My 10k race started at 10am and my sister’s 5k started 15 minutes later. Couldn’t help noticing that the majority of participants were wearing run-club vests and were considerably younger than us! Ah well we knew we’d enjoy it whatever.
The 10k consisted of running twice around the route, back and forth along the river with a couple of loops thrown in. Thankfully much of the route was shaded by big trees as after a very short time I was blooming hot 🥵
Managed to cross the line with a gun time of 1:04:16 and chip time of 1:03:45. I was 8th of 13 in my age category. Happy enough with that. The organisers were very generous with the snacks so sis and I took advantage and ate our own body weights in corn snacks and biscuits and the apparently famous homemade flapjacks that Run Through Events supplied.
Before heading home with our lovely bling we drove a short way to my niece’s house and ate ice lollies in her garden. Think I need to go on a diet or run even more races in an attempt to use up the excess calories 🤣.
All in all a fabulous event and we will both do this one again next year.

That sounds like a wonderful day for you and your sister Mudita11. A good time in that heat too. I think this is where my trails come into their own. Tree sheltered areas, no concrete or tarmac to reflect the heat…..pity there hasn’t been much sun this year ……!
You keep turning out these good times and enjoying the post run menus…..perfect balance between calories expended and consumed. Who cares about run club shirts? 🙂
Sounds like you run in a lovely area Beachcomber66 . I’m thinking of doing the New Forest 10k again this year which is mostly wooded trail. You’d love that one!
Sounds like my kind of territory. I always imagine that the woods and trails up here have a slightly harder edge to them; because of the climate. I lived in Guildford for a while and couldn’t believe how early the summer started, how hot it got and how long it lasted! Think I got a sun tan 🙂
What a lovely day out for the two of you Mudita11 and it does look a beautiful place to run. I was thinking of you Sunday as it was very warm again . But run done , goodies consumed and a lovely medal to show for it. Well done both.
What a fabulous Mudita ! And a great time too. Homemade flapjacks you say? Uh oh! I'm volunteering at a Runthrough event this weekend - that could be dangerous 😍
