A fabulous morning spent at the Slough New Year 10k event this morning! It was 1’c, cold and frosty when we arrived just like the weather man predicted but that didn’t stop us... we were super pumped and raring to go! It was super special to share race day vibes and joys with linda9389 , we’ve done 2 races together now and will be making it a hat trick on 9th Feb for London Winter Run!
Despite our nervousness about the lack of information before the event about the course we were pleasantly surprised at how organised it was! This event was organised by Nice Work.
This was my first 10K race and it went better than I expected. I’ve been averaging 01:18-01:24 in my solo runs but this morning I totally smashed it with an official chip time of 01:12:56.
The results also show a gun time which I am simply going to ignore!
@linda9389 enjoyed a PB too! So plenty of post run celebrations, thank you for my portion of chips and tea! Xx
All in all, a wonderful morning, hopefully future races won’t start as cold as this morning.
We’re even thinking of doing the same next year! A great start to the new year!

I love that photo. Blue sky, happy faces and shiny bling, what's not to like. For your first 10k race, you tackled it like a pro and absolutely smashed it. A great PB! A great start to your 2020 running year, who knows where it might end ...
Thank you for being there, it's really very lovely to have someone to enjoy the event with and you always make an effort to catch me at the finish line whether it's a parkrun or a race, I appreciate it so much. Who knows where this year will end, exactly... but if you have anything to do with it, i'll be on the path to a HM!!! Watch this space x
I hope this year is a good running year for you, injury free and PBs in abundance!
Congratulations on completing your first 10K race in 01.12.56, ignore gun time, chip time is the time you should go by, running with others you usually get a faster time than running on your own, I knocked off as much as 3 minutes when I ran my first full 5k Parkrun than 9 days earlier when I ran the exact same route on my own, now go and celebrate 🎉.
Well done JaoJao - sounds as though you really enjoyed the day! Amazing how all that pre-race adrenaline can send us flying - PBS's for both you and our lovely Linda! Great stuff!🙂
Thank you CSMN, you all have been so suportive the last week with the run up to the event, like having your very own cheer leading squad, hang on, that's exactly what it is. Hope you will share your future races with us so we can do the same for you too x
You are right! We were pretty well prepared for it. We didn’t feel it before the race but definitely felt it after the race maybe because we were still in our sweaty gear whilst having our tea/coffee.
Absolutely brilliant JaoJao and linda9389 ! What a fantastic photo, and you really did have the perfect day for it didn’t you? ☀️🏃♀️❤️ I’m so happy for you both, and what fantastic times! 👏👏👏👏
For me I’ve been doing 3 runs a week but I did have a 2 week holiday in November when I was away and over the Christmas holiday I dipped to 2 runs a week. Also, I try to do a 10K every other week rather than every week.
No I don’t have anything planned until a 15k at Dorney Lake on 5 Sept then the GSR in Oct.
I think I will go back to the last week of the magic plan and then build the long run possibly every other week.
I did 7k on Wednesday with some hill work which I haven’t done before so it was nice to be able to go further from home. There was intermittent walking but I was quite relaxed about it so it was a nice run.
I did sign up for the Winchester 10k at the end of February but it’s just too hilly so I am going to Marshall. I may try out sections of it just in case a miracle happens and I’m suddenly Wonder Woman!! 😂
Looking back at this post I remembered I have 10k at the end of May!!! I’m going to RunFestRun in Windsor Great Park so I imagine it will be quite hilly so that is something to train for.
fantastic, well done JaoJao and linda9389 i am always envious of meet ups and it looks like you’ve had a fab time...nice bling and a lovely day for it ....cracking x
So well done! 🎉👏🏼🎉 What a couple of stars. And a PB for you, JaoJao. Well deserving of that bling. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🎉🎉 You’ve set a great standard with your first 10k event. 👍
Massive congratulations on your first 10k race. Isn’t it amazing how the crowds can propel you along faster than you’d ever dreamt? Fab photo of you both and lovely bling 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💥🏅🥳
