I left home early in bright sunshine to drive the 10 miles to the New Forest Marathon 10k. Annoyingly once I’d parked up the heavens opened and we had torrential rain for ages! I did manage to find the marvellous VRBs (sorry David G that I missed you) who were all drenched but happy to be there! I’m sure they’ll be lots of race reports coming. Luckily the rain stopped before our race started. I love the New Forest but am ashamed to say that I mostly ran this looking at the ground immediately in front of me in order to avoid tripping or slipping over 🤣. My legs seemed to have had enough by the 6k mark but I persevered (and ate a LOT of sweets and snacks) and got a chip time of 1:11:06
This was 2 minutes faster than last year, and last year was 2 minutes faster than the previous year. So, being the strange person that I am, I worked out that, on this trajectory, by the year 2045 I will have equalled the current female world record at this distance. And by the year 2060 I will finish before I even start. Given that I’ll be 98 years old that is quite something. I hope I make the Guinness Book of Records.
It was a really lovely day because of the VRBs and we did get a t-shirt and medal. Following a lovely hot shower when I got home I’m beginning to feel a bit more human 😃

At least the rain stopped before the race. I can see that staying upright was a priority; probably a bit of mud around too. Bottom line, you finished, collected the bling and had a meet up with amazing VRBs……and you seem to have been in some danger of being back home before you set off! Amazing day🙂
Haha love the calculations!🤣 Great to see you again today, and yes I totally get the "legs had had enough by 6k" comment, I definitely had too! But we made it. 💪 I've never had such a tiring 10k for some reason! Early night here ! 💤💤💤xxx
It was great to see you too Ali. I think it was pretty humid as well as all the mud and puddles but we made it! I’ll be asleep early myself. Hope to see you again soon xx
Congratulations on today's run Mudita11, I look forward to seeing your reports for the next few years especially that world record in 2045 when I will be 99 👍🤣
Ha ha, when I entered the 10k I submitted a rather hopeful time of 1:12. That wasn’t going to happen unfortunately but well done to you for beating that. And being quicker than last year, in those conditions is amazing. Fastest female in our group! Lovely to see you again, and see you in Southampton in a few weeks!
Lovely to see you again and you have the accolade of being first female VRB home 🥳🥳 The puddle jumping certainly made it more interesting and being completely on trail was a first for me, but such beautiful surroundings. Early to bed for me too, although, unlike the rest of you, mine was a 2 minute walk from the race village 😂 See you again next time x
it was a joy to meet you and learn that you too are a fan of the Bard. You must come to Stratford. Perhaps come a run the Shakespeare 10k then we can go to the theatre!!
Pity about the heavy rain making the course all the more precarious. Congratulations on finishing safely and with a darned good time 😀🏃♀️👏🏅. Oh and a tee as well I see
