Rushmoor 10K - it’s a family affair!🙂

The sun was shining in Aldershot this morning, for this flat trail run organised jointly by the Blackwater Valley Runners and the Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community. The route meanders around and alongside the Basingstoke Canal and surrounding woodland and it was beautiful.

It’s the second time I’ve run this event and it was so nice to also have my eldest son joining us (yes, he got to ring the PB bell at the end, too!)

The event ‘village’ was at the local Rugby stadium which has great facilities, and was well organised. We then crossed the road to the Polo fields where we all started on what must be the widest start line in the world!!🤣 This cleverly enabled everyone to start pretty much at the same time whilst also enabling the faster runners to move to the front before we were all gradually channelled on to a narrower track. One lap around the Polo fields and then we were off down towards the canal.🏃‍♀️🏃🏽🏃‍♀️

There were lots of fantastic marshalls around the route - without doubt, the most enthusiastic and supportive I have ever come across, which really helps as the legs start to tire!!🙂 The run finished back at the Rugby stadium where support was good for all runners, whatever their time! I think I finished in 1:09: something - not my greatest but I have only recently got back to running 10k - this was more about getting back to the distance and running at organised events, as it’s ages since I’ve done one!

All in all a great morning, and I cannot wait to run this one again next year.🙂

getting folks motivated is not easy is it 🤷‍♀️ This time last year my niece asked me to run Buxton Parkrun but come the day she was nowhere to be found.

My little great nephews are keen to have a go. We’ve done one event together and they tell me they’re going to run the final 2.5 km of my next marathon with me. They ran to the finish with me last year as I rounded the final bend. Bless ‘em 🥰

So do I. This is a tiny, friendly event and the finishers are really spread out. There was no-one near the finish line at the same time as me except for the two boys 🥰. I was glad of the company 😁🏃‍♀️

Thanks Dexy, it was fab! No GSR for me this year, I’m afraid as I haven’t run past 10K in months! I did enter but…😕 I just got very behind with my longer runs/ regular runs/life etc! 🙄 That extra 6k is a lot to tag on, I think. Are you doing it? I know that we usually have quite a big group of HU runners.

Nor me, I volunteered to help so I couldn’t be persuaded to run, but I haven’t been called up so I will be running outside the course to track all my running buddies and cheer them on. Oh yes, you will recognise a few participants. 😉
