It is sausage time again!! Yes you can walk to butchers and buy some, but TailChaser , Katnap and I prefer to work a bit harder for ours. A 10k run including a big stinky hill is a challenge, but for the Kats, doing it just one week after running a marathon, it was tougher than usual.
I had covid and flu vaccinations on Friday. As for Saturday, I lost it to a day in bed with shivers, fever and a blinding headache. Thankfully Sunday dawned and I felt better, but not up to a run as challenging as this one. The tempo series hoodie is awarded to those who complete all 5 races so I had decided I was going to drag my sorry a*** round that course whatever. However I was saved as by being a marshal I could protect my eligibility for the hoodie. So I took up my position at 2k from home and cheered and clapped all the runners. The Kats were going well past me (and hopefully they will comment below on how it went). They kindly waiting for me to return to the venue where we loaded up with our sausages (yes, marshals get sausages too) .
Toad in the hole for tea then !

Sorry you weren’t able to run Shake-and-run but great that your marshalling duty means the series is still on! 👍And I hope that toad- in-hole tasted as good as it looks! 🍽️😋
Well done for keeping tabs on that hoodie by marshalling Shakes. Hopefully the side effects of your vaccinations will be short-lived. I decided to have mine at different times , just in case.
Howdie Shakes! So glad you were able to marshal, you really deserve to get that hoodie come February.
Our toad is well and truly demolished, as is the apple crumble from the windfalls you and Katnap collected. That was very nice too 😋
I was surprised to see how well I’d done as I did feel like I struggled today, just over 63 minutes. However, Marathon training takes the speed out of your legs, and training for Amsterdam didn’t really lend itself to doing hill repeats, so I’m a bit out of practice for both. Maybe I’ll improve next month, although I’ll have to have a few days off when I have my wisdom tooth out. At least 10k doesn’t feel so far.
My shoes came into their own though on the downhill, Adidas Boston 12s, they just wouldn’t let me slow down, they kept going and going and going from 4k to 7.5k! In the end my legs just said ‘Enough!’ and insisted I walked a bit. I might go back to the Speed 2s next month as they are much squishier at the front than the Boston 12s. Depends on what the road conditions are like as the 12s have the best grip of any shoe I have used on this circuit. My big toe survived though - lots of room at the front so it didn’t get so bashed! Still have a nail, although it is still a bit of a funny colour from last Sunday.
Fingers crossed we’ll all be able to run together in Race 2 🤞🤞🤞
Yep, I’ll say, especially with an HM booked for December 😬 It’s going to take a while to get used to the colder weather though, it’s been warm for so long and we barely had any rain during marathon training.
Oh Shakes, I hope you're feeling much better now and that it wasn't too cold on marshalling duty 😊 Nice move though to protect the sausages and hoodie entitlement 👍
Thanks Linda, Was a good morning weather wise, light cloud and occasional sunshine and very little wind. I was wrapped up well but my gloves were soon in my pocket so I could do some good clapping !
I think I did a better than (my) average. Probably wasn't a PB but Strava awarded me lots of virtual bling for segment records.
Today's choice of shoes - Saucony Speed 3 in red. Selected for the little bit of off-road on the final straight as the tread is a bit deeper than my other road racers.
Adroit move with the marshalling there Shakes. I had both of my jabs at the same time. There was no time to think it through; I was asked whether I wanted the flu jab too as the needle with the Covid-19 vaccine was going into my arm. No after effects though. Well done on your quote. Shakespeare appears to be a sausage free zone; loads of toads around of course! Hope you are match fit for the next run 🙂.
A good sausage these days is hard to find 🎶🎵 as sung by Fergal Starkey
Not! 😎😘😁
We had a sausage fest at mine the other day with the extended family eagerly seated to chow down on a goodly assortment of porcine loveliness 🤤 With a mahoosive tray of roasted vegetables just for balance 😋
