RED FEB - Week Three

The third week is often the most challenging. Legs are tired and there is still a long way to go. To be honest I was dreading it. I knew there would be little time for rest and recovery as the diary for the week was also very full. I wasn’t sure if I could keep going. This is how the week went:

Thursday; 2k trot around the park before a day of seminars and play reading (Middleton and Decker’s ‘The Roaring Girl’, very funny, but required a lot of concentration as I had lots of little parts).

Friday; Sunrise 3k run and gossip with TailChaser , lunch with hubby and friends.

Saturday; very short 1.2k around the park followed by an 8 mile hike, second section of the Cotswold Way from Stanton to Winchcombe (beautiful scenery but quite a lot of mud).

Sunday; final Winter Series 10k for sausages and end of series hoodie (lovely shade of red - how appropriate.). Run went better than expected, the hill was still there and there were lots of puddles, but I felt stronger than I did when I ran it in December and January.

Monday, lunch with nephews and start of several days of tutoring for GCSE English revision. Despite feeling totally exhausted I went to club track training at teatime. Fortunately the session was suitable for a recovery run so I took it slowly and managed to complete it, (5.25k).

Tuesday: Another 2k trot around the park before spending the day tutoring my nephew, taking him out for a hot chocolate and to visit the book shops, having a meeting with my research supervisor and going to the pictures to see ‘Bob Marley One Love’ (very good).

Today: another sunrise trot and gossip with TailChaser . Very rainy and lots of puddles. More tutoring to do, dinner at Nando’s and a theatre visit this evening to see ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ to look forward to.

So success, week 3 is done and dusted! Just 8 more day to go. Location change tomorrow as we head to Bournemouth, looking forward to trotting along the seafront on Friday and doing a new parkrun on Saturday. Come on legs, just keep gong!!!

OMG, no wonder you feel tired Nikki! I’m exhausted reading it. Good luck with the next week.

Love the red hoody; I think that’s the best one yet.

Running by the coast is always a treat. Although it can get interesting if windy We hope for the best 😀

Hi Shakes, you’re a star doing all you do. ⭐️ Not far to go now - and you’ll definitely make it to the end. 😀

I’m still trotting merrily along, no aches or pains, but limited by time and weather. 🙄

So the gym has been my saviour again as I have nowhere close to run except the common. No thank you in this! 💦💦💦

28 minute W8R1 this morning. 2k tomorrow and PR on Saturday. Then the Two Tunnels 10k on Sunday. 😀

Enjoy your last week Cheeky, and then the 10k in the tunnels, not much rest for you at the end of the month. I’ve never run on a treadmill ( except when trying out shoes in a shop). Not sure I would like it. 15 mins in the rain is soon over (thank goodness)

I’m a staunch defender of treadmills. The gym has saved my running numerous times - I don’t live in an area with pavements and my 2 choices close to home are muddy, windy and often hilly too. I’d have thrown in the towel without my gym membership! It’s a nice gym though, with proper air conditioning and lots to look at. I couldn’t run looking at a wall!

Let’s grab those RED medals! 👊 🏅

Thanks for your kind words and support. I’m looking forward to seeing Bottom tonight (played by Mathew Baynton - poet in tv programme ‘Ghosts’ and also in Horrible Histories).

Whatever you're eating is clearly giving you loads of energy! Well done for keeping going and for everything else too!

Thanks IP , not sure about the diet, especially as it is Nando’s for tea 🤣.

Not a lot to add from me. My physio advised me this morning to continue to avoid running for now, but I have increased my RED walks to 3.2k/2 miles a day and I am in less pain. I did manage to walk/jog parkrun in 40 minutes on Saturday, so I will carry on being sensible. Two physio appointments next week, then off to Austria a week on Saturday for a week of skiing, which I have been assured is unlikely to do me any damage. Frustrating, but I am focussed on trying to aim to run my 100th parkrun on 16 March. Patience is supposed to be a virtue 😂😂

Well I think your challenge is more difficult than mine. Being patient was never my strong point. I’m sure the skiing will be good for you on all sorts of levels. Enjoy xx
