TailChaser's HM Training Diary - Week 9

Hiya Runners!

Last week I started off by asking if any of these were *not* going to be challenging and I think the answer is definitely 'No!'. So, from now on, I'm just going to get on with this and stop moaning about how challenging it is before I bore you all to tears!!

Due to various family things, on Monday I had to come home from work by bus. This took 3 hours of my life. There will have to be a very good reason for me ever to do that again!! I gave up even attempting to do my first run of the week and just fell into the arms of an Adriene yoga routine before crawling to bed. So run 1 became...:

Run 1: Like the sat nav on your phone when you miss a turning it tells you to take, my runs are 're-calibrating and re-routing'. It's Tuesday and my Friday 20 minuter has turned into Tuesday treadmill whilst youngest kitten had his kayaking lesson in the leisure centre pool. It was good, quite quick and very, very sweaty! Did just over 3km whilst watching Holby City. Shame I didn't have time to watch the whole thing!

Run 2: Wednesday. On schedule! But I've just realised The Plan said 11.2km and I only did 11km 😭. Ah well, I can live with that, I'm sure I'll make it up. Of course, it's supposed to be 7 miles, so it would be. Too much going on in my head today! Ran past lots of the Athletics Club crew again but luckily they were going in the opposite direction rather than zooming past me!

Run 3: Friday. Legs still tired from Wednesday but I'm home from work a bit early so I'm going to get this done before I make dinner and do house work. This is Monday's run that I should have been doing instead of sitting on the bus. It was supposed to be 9.6km (i.e. 6 miles) but unbeknownst to me the bit extra I did to make it up to 10km has made up for the 200 metres I didn't do on Wednesday!! Yes, I know, it doesn't really matter but I do like to do what I've planned. My evening is made totally complete by finishing Adriene's '30 days of Yoga', which is 40 minutes of joy for the final session.

Run 4: Thank Saturday it's parkrun!! Legs, of course, tired... No volunteering again as I've opted for another lie-in this week, thankfully. I do a warm up run there but it's hard work. Katnap has to drop the C25k paperwork off at the club and then joins me but he is also tired from running 10 miles the day before. I'm not expecting a brilliant run but my legs surprise me and as they warm up they show me what they can do. Very happy with a time 28:48 according to the official results (& I beat Katnap for once!!).

So that is the end of Week 9. I've got a gentler week planned for Week 10 so I can re-group again and give the old legs a bit of an easier time. With what the Kat family has had to juggle with so far this year it's very definitely for the best that neither of us got a VLM place but training for this half is an amazing learning experience that I wouldn't miss for the world.

Have a good week everybody. January is over and Spring is on it's way 🌷🌼🌱x

Great Post from you TailChaser, I am particularly impressed by your sub 30 minute 5k of 28.48 at parkrun considering the previous day you had ran a 10K, all that is good training for your HM. 😊 πŸƒπŸΎ

Thanks Al 😊 Yes, normally I wouldn’t have done it but it was useful to see how the legs coped with it πŸ‘

Thanks Dexy, that means a lot πŸ€—. One thing that C25k taught me was that it is very important to have something personal and positive to focus on x
