Sorry I’m a bit late with my Winter Run report, I’ve been fighting dodgy hotel Wi-Fi!
I intentionally started yesterday’s run slowly so I could conserve energy for later in the run. That’s a lot harder than you might think when everyone around is disappearing off into the distance! Anyway, the strategy worked and I ran the whole distance without stopping. I’m very pleased with that considering I was on crutches a couple of months ago.
The atmosphere was great as always and the support for everyone around the course was awesome - loads of penguins, huskies, polar bears and I think I remember a few yetis too.
I was with a group from my running club. Although we were in different waves so didn’t run together, we met up afterwards to exchange stories. Some of us went to lunch together too, before the others got the train and I returned to my hotel.
It was a lovely day, everyone was so friendly and I’ve booked myself in for next year already!

Brilliant David_G . It must have been lovely to have such springlike conditions for the winter run, instead of everything we experienced in January. Did you ppppick up a penguin?
It looks like it may have covered a similar route to the London vitality 10000, although the start/finish may have been different . I’m so glad your legs behaved themselves on the day.
Thanks Irishprincess the bling has some glitter inset in the plastic above the buildings, so it’s more sparkly than it looks. It’s a lovely medal to add to my growing collection! 🥇🥈🥉🏅🎖️
Delighted to know that not only are you off crutches, but running again and even entering races. Very well done! 👏🎉🏃🏻♂️Did you ever find out what was wrong with your leg?
over61andstilltrying it was over-pronation on (mainly) my left side, resulting in my leg muscles getting themselves in a terrible pickle! 😳😖 My sports physio gave me exercises to do, which I’m following religiously and I had a professional gait analysis done and custom insoles designed. That all seems to have done the trick🤞
You were amazing David. Crutches to a 10k race in a relatively short time, all down to your diligent exercises. 👊 I bet you were over the moon to be able to run and get that bling. 🙌💥🏃♂️🏅
thanks cheekychipmunks ’Crutch to 10K’ certainly isn’t recommended and I hope I never have to do it again 😳🤞 The gait analysis, insoles, exercises and patience were equally key to my recovery👍
I bet it did David. You deserve it; problem identified, solution found, plan hatched and followed to letter. Based on our brief acquaintance I would say that is a typical structured approach. 👍
Fab run David - and what an achievement to get back to 10k in such a short time.👏🏃🏽🏅 The weather looked perfect - I am gutted we missed it. I think I ‘m going to book in for next year too!🤞
