Running with dumbbells strapped to my legs! πŸ˜†

Well not literally... But it sure felt like it on today's 12K 😳

My shins and calfs especially on my right leg felt really heavy, I mean really heavy!

After the 5th K I felt like a numbness on my right sole.. which makes me think I'm in need of some new running shoes.. had to stop a couple of time to take my trainer off and rotate my ankle.. which seemed to help.. also I think I didn't hydrate enough yesterday😳 rookie mistake 🀣

But honestly that was one my toughest runs in a long time, phew glad to be on the sofa with a cuppa πŸ«–β˜•

Anyway I've a run scheduled for Friday, see how that goes, a trip to my running shop on Saturday I think is in order πŸ‘ŸπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

New trainer's are long overdue I think πŸ˜ƒ

Happy Running all πŸ™ŒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒ

Maybe you should get new running shoes on Saturday, not such a good run for you today Caroline, with new running shoes your runs should be much better, you say it was like running with dumbells strapped to your legs, yuk, better run on Friday, perhaps with another pair of shoes.

As for me, this morning I ran my 23rd 10K in preparation for the London Vitality Virtual 10,000 in early May, the run was OK but my Smartphone kept cutting out, I think it was the connection with the headphones, next week I'll run without the headphones and just listen to the split times with the phone in my pocket, I have done that a few times in the past. 😊 πŸƒπŸΎ πŸ‘

Thanks Alan, can you recommend a good running shop in Glasgow, I'm through again this weekend πŸ™You are certainly clocking up those K's πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸƒ

Hopefully your smartphone behaves on your next run x

Run4it, 57 Bothwell Street Glasgow is the place I recommend you to go and get running shoes and other running clothes, the two pairs of running shoes I have are excellent which I bought from them a few years ago, you may get a gait analysis and buy the recommended shoes and socks to match, remember to buy a shoe above your normal shoe size

Hi Al

Seems you’re going to be well prepared for your London Vitality Virtual!

I’ve had problems with Bluetooth headphones cutting out. Fixed it by carrying my phone in an armband.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to SkiMonday

It sometimes does that when I am on a walk but when it cuts out when running it slows me down a bit while I fix it, next time I run I'll have it in my arm band or pocket.

I have it in my pocket and it's been cutting out recently, comes back on by itself tho.

I know that feeling! Usually poor sleep and lack of hydration tend to cause it for me. New shoes sound like a good idea, how exciting! 😊 Well done though, enjoy your cuppa, well deserved πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Do you track your shoes? sparky66 😍

sparky66 profile image
sparky66Half Marathon in reply to RunWillie

No I don't but I know I've been running in them for about 10Months at roughly 80/100K per month.. so think I'm overdue 😳I bought brookes which were £130 , they've lasted me well 😁

Wow! Those Brooks have done you proud. I only take mine to 500k & rotate two pairs for road running. Might be worth tracking your shoes in future so you know your mileage. Happy shopping sparky66 😍

Thanks for your advice RunWillie, yeah I definitely need to pay more attention, I will start to track my shoes πŸ™πŸ‘

I’m probably more injury prone with my lack of strength training sparky66 & I love buying running shoes even though mine are very ugly 🀣

My new ugly runners 🀣

I love your new runners, not ugly atall! Happy Running with them πŸ‘My strength training is as important to me as my running.. alternate between two strength training days/ 3 running..to

3 strength training/ 2 running..

Keeps a day through the week for rest and my lazy much loved Sunday rest πŸ˜‚

Hi Sparky

Looks like you’re well-conditioned to that distance so worn out shoes have to be the prime suspect!

Hope you’re sorted with a new pair.

Yes it's definitely time I got a new pair.. this weekend for sure!!!! πŸ‘

Thanks skiMonday πŸ‘

The bad runs make the good ones sweeter.

I often find if I haven’t hydrated enough the day before, that’s the cause of a tougher run.

The next will be good, I’m sure πŸ‘πŸ½

Sorry to hear this was a toughie. Sometimes it just happens that way, but I’d def get some new shoes! Who doesn’t like new shoes, as long as you post a photo of them 😊. Bet that cuppa tasted good, though, and I hope Friday’s run is easier. 😁.

sparky66 profile image
sparky66Half Marathon in reply to Frenc

Thanks Frenc, I'm sure new shoes are needed..my run just seemed different if you know what i mean, not just the usual tired legs.. been 10 months since new shoes 😳 I've just got an appointment with my running shop for Friday afternoon.. πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

sparky66 profile image
sparky66Half Marathon in reply to Frenc

How are you feeling now , you covid negative yet? Had another run since, if so how did you get on πŸ™

Frenc profile image
FrencHalf Marathon in reply to sparky66

10 months is a long time between shoes, def time to get some new ones! That’s prob over 1,000km you’ve done in them at a rough guess. If not quite a bit more.

Yes, tested negative last Friday hurrah! Thanks for asking Sparky 😊. I’ve done 3 runs, all pretty short (5k, 7k and 7k). I’m keeping them slow 🀣. I’m hoping for a decent longer run on Friday. It feels like an age since I had one of those really satisfying longer runs! 😊😊😊

sparky66 profile image
sparky66Half Marathon in reply to Frenc

I know 😏 embarrassed actually πŸ˜‚ but up until this week I've had no issues with them πŸ˜€Wishing you a fantastic longer run on Friday, I'm sure youl feel great, You've done well to get in those runs after Covid πŸ’ͺ

I will run Fri morning aswell, hopefully a 12K..

It's been a while since our last HM.. have you any thoughts on trying again in the near future? X

Frenc profile image
FrencHalf Marathon in reply to sparky66

Oh Soarky, I dread that distance 🀣. Have only ever done it twice and the 2nd time I was in trouble throughout most of it. I can do 10 miles quite happily but I have a real mental block with much further. BUT I need to get over that and do it again! It won’t be this month - I need to build up again, but hopefully in the not too distant future. 😊😊😊

Okay brilliant, just thought I'd ask .. would have been good to support each other.. πŸ˜€I was hoping to try and get one done before the hot weather kicks in😰

Frenc profile image
FrencHalf Marathon in reply to sparky66

I know what you mean, I’m going to have to get my lily white arms out tomorrow I think! I would love to do a HM with you Sparky, that’s a great idea. I would struggle with it right now, but what about towards the end of May, if it’s not too hot! that would give me some time to build back up. I bet you’ll have a cheeky practice one in the meantime 🀣!

sparky66 profile image
sparky66Half Marathon in reply to Frenc

End of May sounds good to me Frenc, give me time to get used to my new trainers πŸ‘Ooh talking white arms.. I'm going to my Neice's 18th on Saturday my outfit has a vest top, so I bought some Nivea gradual tan it's fantastic.. no orange or streaking, never tried any before, quite impressed πŸ‘

Frenc profile image
FrencHalf Marathon in reply to sparky66

You’re on - I’d better do some training now! I can do either Sunday 22 or Sunday 29 if those are any good? I used to love fake tan, have a great time at your niece’s birthday πŸŽ‰.

sparky66 profile image

Either suits me,πŸ‘ let the training comense πŸ˜… making a commitment makes it seem real now 🀣Let's see how we progress over the next few weeks, no pressure πŸ€—

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to sparky66

You’d need to try them on. Only the cloudsurfer suited my feet from the range I tried on. I don’t think I’d buy another pair. They are firm and meant for shorter races, according to the blurb. You could get two pairs for the price of the Ons! Stones get jammed in the soles too ☹️ They are lovely though😍. Almost too posh to run in ☺️
