Longest Run

Managed 18km yesterday, my longest ever run having only completed C25K in Spring. On my way to a half marathon distance on New Year’s Eve then the Wokingham HM Race in Feb πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ™πŸ»πŸ€ž

Well done! πŸ‘

Did you bring snacks and something to drink with you?

I went from 18km being my longest to doing the HM (but there were a few months in between).

It might be helpful to drop back a little on the distance on your next long run (eg. 15km) before increasing again, especially if you found 18km hard towards the end.

I think I’ll be dropping back a couple of KMs on Sunday, but luckily it wasn’t too bad at the end. I carried water with electrolytes, and had two gels on route so hopefully that helped energise me. I may have to work out what to have pre-longer runs as all I do now is have a banana.

Fuel your running adequately as your legs will stop. It’s weird when you β€œbonk”. You feel your legs β€œgo”. It happened to me once! ☺️

I always have my daily bowl of porridge, with an added blob of nut butter on run day. If I’m delayed ☹️ I’ll have a snack before setting off, of white toast and peanut butter πŸ˜‹. If I’m to be running over an hour I tote a trusty snack. Homemade peanut power bar in my case. Before becoming a runner I hated peanut butter πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ™‚

In time you’ll evolve a system that suits you. It can be a but hit and miss at first but you’ll crack it

Good luck and bon voyage πŸ™‚πŸ‘

Thanks. A bowl of porridge I can do! I’ll try that this Sunday.

I make mine with water and a few grains if sea salt. Milk makes for lovely porridge but makes me nauseous so I avoid anything milky if I’m running

Eek - not sure if I could have it without a bit of milk

You get used to it. You can transition gradually 😁
