So this has me all in a dilemma. I've been running 3 5ks a week with a longer run on a Sunday for about a year. This 10 mile Great South Run on Sunday is my first proper race and I want to be as ready as I can be. I ran 10k this last Sunday and 14 the Sunday before but what to do with my usual 5ks this week. I'm thinking a steady 5 today, 3 on Thursday and 1 on Friday. So approx half distance of my normal mid week runs. Is that too much, not enough π ooh I'm all in a dither!

What to run week before GSR ?
Good luck to you LadyGault for your Great South Run on Sunday, I am sure you will do very well, tapering, that's cutting down runs before a big race, you are already doing that, perhaps a 5K on Tuesday, 3K on Thursday, it's up to you if you want to run a 1K on Friday, very wise on not running on Saturday, once again good luck for Sunday.
What did your week look like before your HM? I wouldn't stress too much, just make sure your runs beforehand are no pressure runs ππ»
Running on fresh legs is awesome! A 5 and a 3 midweek will be plenty I'm sure. Enjoy!!!
Based on my extremely limited experience, I'd go for less rather than more. I'd rather have the extra k in my legs than used up just before the event!
I'm doing GSR too LadyGault. You've done all the hard work now, so take it easy this week, drink lots of water, and try and get lots of sleep. I don't sleep much the night before a race, so its good to have some in the bank.. π¦π¦π¦
I ran a slow 25 mins this morning and will probably do a 15 min and a 10 mins before Sunday, just to keep the wheels oiled.
Have a great day.
Yes I would agree with going easy the week prior. Even easier maybe than you think you need. Best of luck, youβve got this! πππ
Aim to enjoy the day and don't change what you are already doing. As Dexy5 says, hydrate now in the days before. There seems to be quite a number of HU forum members doing the GSR.
Are you in the Green wave?

Hi LadyGault - the taper for my HM was 3 miles tuesday and 3 miles on thursday and thats it - i did nothing else - not even cross-training or long walks just gentle stretching, as a result my legs were ready for the race on sunday and i'm now a fully committed member of the taper society Good luck for your race on Sunday
