What to do next week?

Since Christmas I have stepped up the hm training for my April 22nd event to three runs a week whilst building distance. I have run Mondays, Thursdays and Saturday parkrun.

wk1 4.2, 7.3 and 3 miles

Wk 2. 4.2, 8.4 and 3.1 miles

Wk 3. 4.5, 9.3 and 4.1 miles

Wk 4. 4.3, 9.6 and 3.1 miles.

My question is that this week I have a 5 mile event run on Sunday. So I can run a normal 4-5mile on monday but should I do the long run Thursday (about 9-10 miles) or should I do a cut back week with a shorter 7 mile run? I will drop parkrun as I have the 5 mile event on Sunday. Thank you.

I'd do less. Taper week if you will.

Do you think 7 miles is a compromise enough? That would give me 16 miles across the week where I have done 17 or 18 miles?

April is ages away if your longest long run is currently 9.6miles then there is no harm in cutting back to 7miles for one week. you have plenty of time to train for half marathon distance.

When I train for a marathon I will always do an easier week every 4 weeks or so.

The event is a little way off in 13 weeks but I do have an enforced cut back for 2 weeks (Australia trip) in about 5 weeks time so that would be about right for the next cut back. I was hoping to get to 11 miles prior to going away to australia in the hope I can carry on from 11 miles when I get back! I had not heard of cut back weeks until recently.......

Sounds like your be fine, and you can run in Australia although you have by gravity shoes to stop you falling off because they are upside down :)

and remember you dont have to do the whole half marathon distance in training.

I will take my gravity shoes and run if I can, temperature will be end of summer there so hot!
