So for my 5th 10 miles run I set of at 7.45 am in a bright rather cold morning +4C temperature with a touch of ground frost on what I think will be my last 10 miles run, from now on 10K will be my longest run.
I intended my pace to be 7.45/7.50km but it averaged 7.30Km, the sun had just risen, there was a mist lying just over the loch with a few swans having a early morning flight over me at around 4 kilometers.
Overall I enjoyed my 5th and quickest 10 miles run but I think from now on 10K will be my longest run.

That's amazing Al! I couldn't even do 5k at that pace. What a fantastic run for you, well done πππ forgot to say, congratulations on your 10mile PB!! π₯³ππͺπββοΈ
Thanks Beatlesforever, I ran it at a slightly faster pace than I intended, even the last 2 kilometers were sub 8 minutes, I posted a map of pace, time but it didn't appear on my post.
Thanks Now63, yes I am sure that will have gone towards my VWRC, you only need to run one 3K a week in less than 30 minutes to contribute to another polio vaccine to Unicef.
Thank you very much grumpyoldgirl, at my age of 75 I am not really wanting to run from now on any longer than 10K, o yes I know that there are some runners in there 80's that run HM's and even full marathons every year but for me those distances are too long.
It was a PB for me at 10 miles, thanks Instructor57, my 5K split time was exactly 37:00 which I posted to my home parkrun as my 69th (not) parkrun, I thought my 8K split time would be a little over a hour but it was 58:58 and managed a sub split 75 minutes 10K time of 1:13:34, I think if I had continued any further than 10 miles I would have ended up on the IC, no I don't want to be there. π ππΎ
That part of my run was particularly good, the sun had just risen, the long shadow of the trees were reflected back on the slightly frosty grass, the mist lying on the loch then the sound of swans flying over me was as you say IP 'lovely', three runners passed me, however, I would say only one of them was running at sub 30 minute 5k pace, the other two were at about 32 minutes 5K pace which is my normal average 5K pace at parkrun. π ππΎ
Sounds really beautiful Al. I love mist anywhere and think it always adds a feeling of mystery to any setting (apart from when Iβm driving of course!)
Great to see flights of π¦’. It always makes me slightly sad though I think theyβre flying away to warmer climes π. When in fact theyβre probably off to their nearest pond for fresh food π
Congratulations, Al. Thatβs a long run and a cracking pace. A good idea as well to ration your very long runs. Also, you were able to appreciate your surroundings.
I like the words "cracking pace" I was running at around a 37 minutes 5K pace, my average 5K time is around 33 minutes but as this mornings run was 10 miles my pace was slower, yes the surroundings are lovely on that run, away from traffic and the site of π¦ ducks and swans are very nice.
Wow, Al! What a great 10 mile run - fantastic ππππ
The misty loch sounds great, too, with the swans flying over. Oh, and many congratulations for your PB, that was a cracking pace you set for 10 miles! Well done! πππ
Thanks Jools2020, I ran it a little quicker than intended, I hoped to beat my previous PB of 2 hours 4 minutes by about one minute, however, it was 3 minutes quicker than my previous 10 miles run of exactly 4 weeks ago.
That sounds like a wonderful run Al, if youβve really decided not to run 10 miles again then how great that it was your fastest 10k is a good distance for the future
Thanks WillowandSolo, ending what was my FIFTH, not 6th 10 miles with a PB for that distance made me very happy, however, I have realised that my favourite distances for running are, 3,5,8 and 10K runs, 3 K's are ran usually during the winter months just to keep my legs mobilised
Well done AlMorr another great 10 miler. My pace even when I was it on this walk/ jog wasnβt near your 5 km pace. Great time and it would have been lovely running around the loch. Speedy Gonzales you are. I was out at 6.15 and temperature was 7 degrees but think frost came in when daylight came in, had to heat the car before work. 4 degrees here as well. MrD would give you kudos if you were on Strava so will give you thumbs up π from him. ππ
Thanks Doris8 and Mr D as well, I was wearing shorts, a light jumper, underneath the jumper a T Shirt, underneath the T Shirt was a sleeveless vest, ha, underneath that, skin, I didn't feel too cold although the temperature was +4C at the start and +9 by the finish of my run.
Great run! Your surroundings sound fabulous to a city dwelling midlander. Impressive pace too. Iβm 20 years younger and canβt match that pace. Respect β
My surroundings are very nice, when I think of it elite athletes are running a marathon at the same time as I run 10 miles, lol
Well done, that is FAST! At least, would be for me, haha. I think for 10 miles I'll need at least half an hour more. So again: well done! What is the reason for going back to 10K by the way? Is it the time of the year or just not feeling the need to get to 10 miles every single long run? Just curious, as I am working verrry slowly up to 10 miles myself.
Thanks BlackScorpion, every time I run 10 miles, I have now ran five of them, I think HM distance, but usually at 14K I start to slow down and decide to stop at just over 16K which is 10 miles, I am not out of breath or shattered but my legs and other parts of my body tell me that to go on further than 10 miles wouldn't be wise, I don't want to be on the IC or not be able to do anything the next day, so as I have run 5/10 mile runs and yesterday was my quickest I thought OK from now on 10K will do me as my longest distance, who knows next year I might try another 10 miles, maybe.
That's an excellent run Almorr, well done indeed. It's cold where you are too so you must be reluctant to go out and do it , but off you went and achieved a brilliant result. 10 miles or 10k, both are an achievement, so whatever you most enjoy will be a good distance for you.Best wishes βΊοΈ
I live 12 miles from Glasgow, yesterday morning Glasgow was one of the coldest places in the UK at 7 am although the temperature by the afternoon got to 16C with plenty of sunshine, I ran at first in a temperature of +4C but soon warmed up, 10 miles/16K or 6 miles/10K are runs I have ran in the last 6 months, but I am thinking that 10K from now on will be my longest run, thanks for the compliments, best wishes to you Raisemeup.
Thanks misswobble, yesterday the temperature at 8 am during my run was +4C, if I had run this morning the temperature was 15C, that's a big difference, it's also very muggy with light rain, I certainly would have been more sweaty than yesterday, as I type this the time is 09.46, that's exactly the time yesterday that I finished my 10 miles run.
Not sure how I missed this post Al! A great time for you - Iβm very impressed! And I think youβre very sensible to know your limits on distance - Iβm sure you could easily do HM or more, but being able to move the next day is important as well!
Thanks Oldgirlruns, as far as being able to move the next day, it reminds me of a work colleague many years ago who used to cycle over a 100 miles every weekend, he was so tired after that bike ride that he rarely was at work on the following Monday, that might happen to me if on a Wednesday I ran a HM and was unable to attend my Thursday morning walking group which I enjoy as well, I hope you are looking forward to cheering the runners, including Dexy5 for next weekends Great South Run. ππΎ
Thanks Katnap, sub 2 hours 10 miles for meπ.... on a bike, I am not sure if I will run another 10 miles run, perhaps sometime next year.
Today Saturday I ran my 25th parkrun at my home parkrun of Dunfermline, I told the Run Director before the briefing that this was my 25th parkrun, as I was running up the last 10 metres she cheered me on with others shouting "Well done Alan 25,25"
