Indoor: 35 minute recovery run. Nothing particularly remarkable about this run except its almost exactly 1K discrepancy between the treadmill measurement and the NRC app. Even going by the latter it seems I am getting faster. I still have mental battles during all of my runs, my mind constantly telling my body that it doesn’t want to carry on and then when I know the end is coming I pick up the pace and my real fitness tells. It’s easier to shut the head up over the shorter distances but if this is the case during my 10 mile run the first 5-8K is going to be the usual tough challenge. Only this time when I reach 8K I’ll only be halfway through.
Spoke to my doctor yesterday about my wheezing in the mornings and more tests will ensue. They have me on Omeprazole (antacid) both morning and night now so there has been some improvement as they maintain that the wheezing is in part aggravated by stomach acid and this can trigger coughing. However, my doctor also acknowledged that it could also be the beginnings of COPD. Due to the pandemic the local hospital are not doing spirometry tests at the moment (no idea exactly how the pandemic is stopping those since I had one last summer) but it’s a waiting game. Luckily for me my wheezing doesn’t really affect my running that much. It’s just another physical irritation to deal with rather than something truly disastrous like cramp. I just don’t want to sound like I have a smoker’s cough!
All in all I feel pretty chipper today. Running is good for the old mental health and it’s a beautiful day. I’ve taken to walking over the Heath after my treadmill runs, replete with Gail’s coffee and egg and cheese soufflé with spinach in a bun. A day’s rest tomorrow and then the big bash on Friday: 16.1K aka 10 miles!
