HHM Training - Week 5 Day 6 (Second attempt)

I did it! What a difference a rest makes. So I took yesterday off to chill and went back out this morning, with the words of all of you lovely people ringing in my ears and I pushed on through and completed. I ran from my car parked at Primrose Hill, across to Regents Park and did one and a half circuits of the park and then ran through the park and back to Primrose Hill. It was a beautiful and peaceful run since I started earlier. I decided nothing was going to irritate or annoy me today and I didn’t even play any music as I was worried about my phone battery (which I neglected to charge last night.) The weather was cooler and I was really in the zone.

The usual 3-5K block came and went without too much stress and once I hit 5K I felt I would do it. The only negative is that my groin problem is getting worse. I was really feeling it around 6K and every time I coughed it pulled. I’ve been using the massage gun on it and stretching as much as I can but there is a problem. Once I hit 7.5K I had to make a decision about continuing to run around the park or to run through it. I decided to run through it which was a great decision since I finished almost exactly at my car.

I am extremely happy. I never even thought about stopping today, even though from 8-9K was difficult. Also some of the last 1K was a little uphill. Today I could feel the positive effects of all of that training and despite my dodgy lungs, strained groin and aching legs, I ignored it all and focused on my running. It wasn’t fast but it was successful. Thank you all for your help and support. Go us!!!

Well done Dodgylungs , it's amazing the boost VRBs can give, isn't it?😀

Thank you! What's a VRB? I have a feeling my groin strain is actually a sports hernia.

Thank you! Here’s hoping it’s not a hernia!

Great! Well done for completing another 10k 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I’m starting that ‘week’ on the plan next week. The last ‘week’ took me 3 weeks 😂 but hey, we’re doing it! Hope your next week goes well.

Thank you. Well done you too. Is work getting in the way of completing the weeks?

Definitely! And the heat. It’s been a tough few months in school due to covid. I’ve broken up for the hols now 😊 so should be able to rest and run more for the next few weeks.

Well that’s good. I ran at the gym during the heat. So much easier. I even did the previous 10K in the gym. I’m only running outside now because it’s cooler. That said once you’ve done an hour on the treadmill you have to reset so it’s not ideal. I’m doing the shorter runs in the gym and the long runs outside now. We’re supposed to be having another heatwave late August so we’ll see.

Well done dodgylungs.... So difficult to know when to stop and when to push through pain. You pushed through and hopefully the emotional high balances the physical strain. For the first time I had a pain down the outside of my leg when doing a 12k last week....I ended up walking/ running for the last2 k, walking for 1" and running for 5. It worked well enough. Tge pain disappeared on walking but soon returned. This week I've done a 5 and 6 k and it's been ok...I'd never know how long to rest if I'd really pulled a muscle or something. I won't be trying another 12k till next week as have a 6 hr drive tomorrow and that's tough for legs getting stiff.

Well done for pushing through. Not sure my pain is the type I should push through. It’s clear to me now that I’ve had this probable hernia for a while now. The extra intensive exercise is just exacerbating it.
