Indoors: So my first 10K for some time went off without a hitch. I’ll ignore the fact that running indoors is easier than outside for me. I’ll ignore the fact that 10K on the NRC app is nowhere near an actual 10K - but I don’t care because my left knee was hurting a bit and my groin was giving me jip all the way through, despite a day’s rest after football on Sunday. Ok I’m clearly pushing my body hard at the moment and may need more than one day’s rest now. However, I ran for 1hr 16minutes with only a pause in the middle to restart the treadmill after it began its warm down process at 57minutes and I ran on the spot until it restarted again, so I’m feeling pretty chuffed with myself.
In terms of the NRC app I am now halfway through the half marathon. However I’ve realised that according to the treadmill and my FitBit, 5K on the NRC app is only 4.25K in reality. No matter, I’m doing another 10K next week and I’ll go by my FitBit distance as it has GPS. I don’t want to get to 17K in the half marathon and run out of steam. But I’m pleased with running non stop for 1hr 16minutes. At the moment I’m not worried about time but simply finishing the distance. If I can do that distance with a sore knee and groin, once I pick the pace up I’ll easily hit my target of 3hours for the actual event (I won’t say race coz I won’t be racing anyone!).

But there’s something clearly still bothering your knee. Are you able to see a physio? You certainly don't want a bigger problem further down your training road ☹️
Have you tried taking a whole week off? I appreciate it’s not what we want to do when training but it might be what you need to fully rest the troublesome knee.
Thank you. Yes, I’m thinking about taking a week off now. Or at least until the knee and groin have both healed. No sense in putting myself out of action for longer. I think swimming might be on my immediate horizon for a while.
Good idea but not the breaststroke as that puts pressure on the knees. You could try running in the pool. I tried it once and could only walk, it’s hard but apparently very good for us 🙂
