Hackney Half Marathon Training - Week 12 Day 3

Today I completed my first half marathon on the treadmill. I wasn’t sure if the NRC app was accurate regarding the distance but my Fitbit also confirmed it.

Considering I ran most of it with a tight right calf and hamstring, I feel doubly elated to have completed the distance. Now to try and run it outside on the 26th September!

I’m going for an ultrasound on my hernia today. Considering all of my injury niggles I’m thinking it’s nothing short of miraculous that I kept going for 3 hours.

Just had a Gail’s sausage roll and custard brioche to celebrate. Oh yeah!!

Fabulous!!! What a confidence boost. Would you like your half marathon badge just now or would you like to wait until after the road race itself?

Thank you so much. I’ll have it now please, because psychologically it will take the pressure off the race and I can enjoy it more. Also if I do break down for any reason (cramp, hernia, ankle, act of God 😂) I won’t feel like I failed!

Tada! Wear with pride!!!

I will thank you. Even more pleased since I’ve just been up the hospital for an ultrasound and diagnosed with a double hernia. I can only notice it on my left side. I think after the race I’ll be taking it easy for a bit!

So you were right! Good to have the diagnosis confirmed, and hopefully a way forward too.

Yeah, didn’t know I had two. The one on the left side has definitely hindered my training which is why I’ve switched to the dreadmill.

Good luck at the hospital. I hope you’re finally going to get it sorted

Italics! I’ve no idea 🤷‍♀️ ☺️

Thank you. I’ve now been referred to a consultant so no doubt an operation will be forthcoming.

I wonder how long you’ll have to wait. Not too long I hope 🤞

You should get an extra special HM badge as you ran it on a treadmill Dodgy. That’s a miracle in itself as far as I’m concerned! Very very well done! You’ll ace the real thing on the 26th, I know you will. 👏👏👊👊

Thank you very much. For me, the treadmill is an easier option than running outside. I purposely ran the HM distance to give myself the psychological boost of knowing I could do it. I think it will make a massive difference on the day of the race. Between now and the race I’m going to do more outdoor training while nursing my respective injuries. It’s crazy trying to run a HM with a groin hernia but I know I can last the distance indoors. I just need to take it slowly. At around 1hr 40mins I had a complete so and so running on the treadmill next to me, running backwards on it and then shrieking to his friend at something on his phone. I glared at him and next thing I knew they had vacated the treadmill.Never get in between a runner and his goals 😂

Oh good for you sending them on their way! That would have ground my gears. 🙄 I once ran 10k at the gym and there was a spare treadmill next to me. I finished my run, proud that I’d managed to keep going, and an older chap was looking at me. I thought he was going to say “good for you”, or something complimentary, but no. He grumbled that I’d taken too long and had wanted to use that treadmill. Really? 🙄🙄🙄 Some people!

Good luck with your race, can’t wait to hear all about it. 😀

Haha - that’s the norm at some gyms. He’d have hated me today as I took 3 hours. You’re not really supposed to run for more than an hour. The weights are more popular than the treadmills at PureGym which suits me. I’ve been avoiding weights and now I’ve been diagnosed with a double hernia maybe I should only do very light ones.

Congratulations on your first HM! 🎉🎉🙂Great that you have already hit the full distance before the Hackney Half later this month. I’m sure that will give you confidence on the day…and of course the atmosphere on race day always helps. 🙂

I should hope so! You earned that feeling of the smugness and warm glow that comes from having nailed it 😁💪😃. Bask in running glory😎

Meanwhile I’m hitting the trail for the 7 mile run today. I was going early doors but my husband is off work today and hurled a scud into my plans 🤨🙄. He’s gone out now, and I’m unexpectedly free of dogs, so I’m going out to play. I hope I perform better than the other day 🙄

Thank you and good luck with your running. I put the big run off for over a week so that I felt tip top doing it. Sometimes waiting is the best training.

Absolutely! I took yesterday off as fast intervals was on the plan 🤨. I held off from mowing and just walked the pug about the locale, hopefully I’ll be ok

My trail is tricky but I don’t fancy road running today. I’ve had so much noise outside my house from roadworks and traffic build-up, that I’m after some peace 😁

Yes peace is important isn’t it. Running is a form of meditation and traffic is an anathema to that. Hope it goes peacefully and successfully.
