It’s amazing how unfit I currently am considering I ran 13K not so long ago. I did a walk/run 30mins on the treadmill at the gym which was very difficult. Reminded me of the early days of C25K as I wanted to stop at 10,15,20 and 25mins respectively. However, I soldiered through and completed and then spent a decent amount of time doing weights. I’m doing a series of speed run fartleks tomorrow which I’m actually looking forward to as they’re quite easy. I’m working from the NRC half marathon training schedule as I need to get back into shape and they mix up the training well. Despite the difficulties I don’t really have serious doubts that I can achieve the HM as I have nearly 4 months until 26th September. It may be tricky getting back into it, I’m horribly overweight and my lungs are still dodgy but I really feel I can do it. Because I’ve been running on and off outside for some time I’m no longer doubting myself or panicking. Let’s hope I’m not kidding myself either.

HHM training Week 1 Day 2
Dreadmills are torture.
This is a very inspiring post, thank you! I started training for the health unlocked HM back in January but I got injured and loads of other stuff got in the way. Long story short, I'm looking for a new plan as I didn't enjoy the Garmin one. I think I'll give the NRC HM plan a go, I'm also aiming for the autumn so fingers crossed. Good luck with your training! 👍
Good luck let’s compare notes. There are some other really good ones like the RunnersWorld beginners HM programme. I almost did that one. Roseabi has a comprehensive guide here healthunlocked.com/marathon...
Hi Dodgylungs, thanks again for directing me to those HM plans. I was tempted by the Bupa and Runnersworld beginners plans but I've started the NRC one - mainly because it's 14 weeks long but I also liked its flexibility and the fact that it has guided runs. This week I only managed 3 runs rather than 5 but it's been a while since I ran regularly so I don't want to do too much too soon. Hope you're doing well! 👍
I'm registered on 5 September, which seems awfully early in the "back to school" year, but it is what it is, I would have preferred beginning of October!
I'm on treadmill until pollen season dies down, my poor treadmill is looking its age and it stopped working the other day
I managed to get it going again, but I fear it's the beginning of the end...
