My Never Ending Trotting Desire.

My journey commenced three years ago in my 75th year.I always wanted to run but never thought I would until I found C25k and the HealthUnlocked Forum.

I still need the structure that C25k provides. At present I am trying to produce a bespoke but similar structure for my 50k Ultra.I just need to be able to ✅ weekly the adaption/preparation stuff that leads to graduation.

I just need to put the work in, avoid injury, and pick up the result and experience that feeling.

Many other responsibilities and background noises present themselves. They add to the challenge, cloud focus and are distractions.

I recall all the advice and support on here and I incorporate it in my plans. There is a degree of uniqueness also to be applied.I have not forgotten that I am still trying to build a running body and running brain. It can be difficult to balance a bit of realism and expectations.

I do enjoy myself and always find my head returns to good a place after a run.

Nothing would please me more than to go from a non runner to novice ultra crunching trotter.

Just sharing .Do not want to be boring.I value, respect and appreciate the support that this Forum gives.

Atb with your journeys.

Nice to hear from you again Tbae 😊, I know that you were training for a marathon but you now say that you want to run a 50K ultra marathon, one thing at a time, first you should run that marathon and if that goes well then run that 50K ultra marathon, but there is a big but here, that darned hedge, year after year you have tried to run but cutting that hedge has stopped you, could you not get someone to cut it while you train for that marathon. 😊 🏃🏾 👍

Thanks Al.Got some help now.Of course not just the hedge ,other stuff also.I am the novice Al but actually when you start putting the training crunching stuff together and at my slow pace, but resulting in long hours, there is not a huge difference between the M and the minimum 50 k Ultra. This perhaps is once in a lifetime also and to squeeze a further 1.5 hours is worthy of consideration.Providing you hit the M mark of course.Putting in the hours and kms is a serious challenge and of course the acid test.🏃‍♂️🌟👏👏💫⚡️

I'm rooting for you Bob! I know you've got it in you.

From week 5 on you're asking a lot of yourself. I can't help thinking do 2 runs but only one long to give yourself some respite. Make the one in the left column shorter and keep the longer one on the right. You don't have to tick every step along the way, you can comfortably add 6k to the longest one.

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Thanks Jo.Your experience is invaluable.I will adjust things as I go and not move on until I am comfortable.🏃‍♀️🌟👏👏❤️💪🙏💫⚡️

Looking at your plan it does look a bit ambitious. Best of luck!

Yes probably nowster. My first was 4 months. It probably will not allow any corners to be cut.🙈😂

Hmm, I'd say it's a case of how much risk of injury you're willing to take in order to make rapid progress.

For me, doing mostly short, easy runs combined with adding 10% to my long run every couple of weeks has served me well. OK, I pushed my luck a bit on Friday by increasing from 35k to 42k (an increase of 20%) but I've been building steadily (and consolidating) for months so I'd built up a good foundation.

My suggestion is to do two 5k runs and one long run each week adding 10% to the long run every week. Then, once a month, have a cutback week where you run a 5k instead of the long run. That way, you double your distance every 10 weeks.

Obviously, it's your choice and I wish you all the best however you decice to play it.

I’m so impressed Tbae. You’re an inspiration. I’m about 20 years your junior but I’ve confirmed to myself that HM is my limit. I’ve run the distance 5 times now and couldn’t run another step after each. People like you are awesome and I’ll love hearing about your progress. Good luck! 👏👏👏

Thank you cc for your kind words.Last year I went 10k/20k/31k in 3 weeks as a weekly long run.Not sensible.I will be working hard to string together 3x14.25km and 4x12.5km in chunks with rest periods. No walking for me, my pace is so slow the lampposts laugh.🏃‍♀️🌟👏👏💪🙏💫⚡️

Brilliant! 😂😂 I don’t walk either, nor am I quick, but I get the job done. But nowhere near your phenomenal distances, which is why I’m so in awe. Fantastic! 👏👏👏

I sent you positive running vibes as I was chugging up a hill in the rain this morning, listening to the sublime Donovan, trying to “catch the wind”😃👍🧢💦💨. Lovely stuff 🙂

Tbae , your ambition is awe-inspiring!

I'm less experienced than you, as I'm just coming up to a year of running and am only now starting to run further than HM. However if I compare your plan to my 16-week maratrail one, yours does look quite demanding. Admittedly mine has me running five times a week whereas I used to run two or three times a week, but there's only one long run, which gradually increases, and is cut back every so often.

I wish you all the best with your running! 👍

Tbae profile image

You are doing great Cmoi.Tbh I am just feeling my way forward and trying to come up with a sensible build up and chunking combination.3x14.15km and 12.5km x4.

So I will not be running more than 2-2.5 hours on anyone chunk.Last year 31km was my longest continuous run.At present I do not intend to repeat 5 hour + outings. The only option I have in experiencing that feeling and perhaps be in control is to spread it over a 17 hour day.

Every good wish to you.

I am in awe of your dedication and focus T! It took me almost five years to dare tackle a FM. I was tempted to enter the MC Ultra this year but couldn't envision me doing it so ticked the FM option instead.Love the format of your plan!!! Clean, accessible and easily referenced!

You are now inspiring me to "think big" :)

Hi John,Replied to you but lost it.

Thank you for kind words.

Trying to apply all the wisdom on here to oldies.( me).I am chasing stuff, ducking and diving. When I am further down the road and if it all hangs together with a result I will post it.

Every good wish with your planned event and all your plans John.I could not cope or handle that John.🌟

Admire your planning and determination. I started 10 months ago and have just started training for 10 miles or 15k,which ever I get to first! What I've learnt on here is to allow myself to change ' the plan' if need be...not something I found easy, being afraid that time when I could still increase stamina and distance, was running out. Now I tell myself that whatever I've run is an achievement compared to a year ago...as is tweaking my plan! Good luck in your mission.

Thank you.Brillant and I agree fully with you.

Love yourself and acknowledge your achievement and keep tweaking your plans.

Remember also if you adjust your pace you can run all day if you so wish.
