Attached is James Harper’s second ultra marathon,2.5 continuous marathons.

In his 5 week preparation he ticked off his first ever marathon, first ever 52 km ultra and was doing 70km per week.

The 52km was the furthest he was going in preparation for 100 plus km ACW attempt round the Island of Anglesey.

Well he made it against a brutal wind going north on the east side homeward leg and climbed the equivalent of a Munro in the process.

James chose the road as a one day event and not the Ring of Fire coastal Trail 3day event.

Amazingly he completed his route with 5 check points in 12.5 hours and raised a generous amount for his chosen charity MIND.

I hope he will get round to posting his race report on here.

It was a joy and a privilege to see this young man plan, prepare and perform.

What an achievement and a provider of running magic.

Fantastic! Is this Forest_grump93 by any chance? He mentioned in last week’s chat that he was attempting 100k around Anglesey. I am very much looking forward to his report if he does one here.

Yes Roger.🙈😂.

I am sure he will.He is always learning.👍

I think he has his eye on the 24hour Snowdon event.Number of ups and downs. There are awards equalling our notable world mountains. So if you can equal Everest up and down in 24 hours you have the top award.🙈💪🤛💥

Amazing!

11+ hours of running at a punishing pace.

8900 kCal is also the equivalent of four day's normal consumption, on top of the baseline.

Yes amazing nowster.Very kind words.

He is very clever with his fuelling. He calculated/used the stuff either on his garmin watch to have a nett deficit of 1000cals at the end of the run with distance and pace all plugged in.He felt a bit sick with the required fuelling well into his ultra.Hopeful James will enlighten, its not for this dinasaur.🦕😂

He reckons his shoe selection did not help for an Ultra.Fine for the first leg marathon but felt his feet sore on the carbon fibre.Changed at 68km for more cushioning but on completion of 2nd marathon perhaps not enough ankle support. He flew the first two marathons and carried an injury for the last half marathon.Considering he really only prepared for 5 weeks it’s little wonder he perhaps was short of a little strength and endurance for the final half marathon.

It’s only his first marathon, first 50k ultra and first 100k plus ultra all in 5 weeks.

James definitely feels he can just run all day.His cadence is 200bpm.He can progressively and aggressively run One km intervals, increasing through 8 intervals at sub 4:00 ? pace.

Thanks for your kind words nowster and every good wish to you.

Yes IP.I think he is recovering and repairing well.I will see him tomorrow.

I hope he will introduce himself and as a minimum share his race report.

He has done triathlons and put in his words he is new to distance running.

Took sometime to find out if he would enjoy it.The need for expensive gear/bikes to compete in triathlons has put him off somewhat I think.

He is a very humble young man.He appreciates that his easy is someone else’s very best.

Every best wish to you IP and all you do.
