This photograph isn't a triumph of composition or even interesting subject matter! But it does represent a long awaited return to my favourite trail, flat white and brownie (albeit served up in a Covid-19 secure way). The ice and mud have finally retreated!
I cut the run short at 4k, partly because my calf felt really good, but my breathing was getting a bit ragged and I thought "quit while you are ahead". This reflects a new found maturity; my inner idiot was silenced by the thought that pushing too far might require more therapy! Everything felt good; no soreness, or tightness or pain, just a lovely smooth action. Amazing! I was running at 30 seconds/k faster than I have done since the beginning of December without realising it. Sure there are differences between the trail and the road runs I have had to resort to; the elevation gain was a mere 16m v the 29m of the road route. The road route is down hill out and uphill back too (wrong way round!!!) But, at this stage, the therapy looks to have been just what was needed!
