I've done it - HM place booked!! 😱

So I have been pondering about attempting the HM distance for a while now but was dithering about when? where? trail or road? organised or virtual?......

I looked at roseabi 's plan a few months ago and adapted it to suit the days I could run etc. and used 10th October as the race day because I vaguely thought I would like to do the Bournemouth HM.

Last Monday I looked at the plan again and day 1 was June 21st. On the same day I had some very sad news about a family member who lost her battle with MND. I thought perhaps I could run the HM to raise money for the MND Association and set about booking a place and setting up a Just Giving page. The Bournemouth HM is fitting because she lived all her life in Bournemouth and Poole.

I also like the Bournemouth HM route. It is a linear route (don't fancy going round a route twice and probably being lapped!) and basically flat, going along the seafront. Lovely sea breeze too! I used to live in Bournemouth so it will be familiar and also family will be able to support which will be a bonus 😊

So I have completed one week of my plan - 3 runs which included a hilly one plus stretch and strength days. Once term has finished I will be able to fit in more walks on cross training days and perhaps a bike ride? I am hoping that the trail running and hilly routes I do will pay dividends on race day!

One problem......I need some road running shoes! wide fitting - any suggestions?

Best of luck to everyone with your training plans.

So sorry for your loss.

What a lovely idea to fund raise.

Congratulations on finishing your first week of training.

What a fabulous motivation for your first Half Marathon - it will be a very special run for lots of reasons. I've had Hoka Cliftons in a wide fir for the last 2 or 3 years, but you'd be best going to a running shop and trying a few pairs on to see what suits you. Good luck.

Yes, I was thinking of doing that. I made a mistake with my last pair of trail shoes - my usual size felt too tight in the toes so bought size 7, which are too big really.

Well early days but hope the fund raising will be a good motivation to keep going during training and the event!!

What a positive way to turn it into something meaningful - I'm sure it will be a poignant run for you, but it'll be very memorable.

Good luck with your training!
