RED January Week 2

I nearly blew it this morning! When I got up it was raining, but it quickly turned to snow and is now settling gently. I had planned my weekly long run and was intending to do a 10k so that my total distance for the week would be about 20% higher than last week’s 31k. However, determined not to break my 13 day streak and clad in 3 layers, gloves, hat and scarf, I soon discovered that last night’s ice hadn’t melted and was now lying unseen under the water/snow. Discretion being the better part of valour, my 10k became 2.11k and 10k can wait. So just 26.74km this week - 3.05 in fog, 5.02 (not) parkrun, 2.01 sprint, 4.53 run, 5.01 run, 3.01 speed run and 2.11 in snow. Roll on week 3

Well done Sandie. Super smart cutting it short. Mine was a squelchfest this morning. 🙄💦🏃‍♀️

Thanks Cheeky. It was getting more and more slippery as the snow fell. Just wasn’t worth it, but RED is still intact 😃😃 Not sure what tomorrow will bring 😬

I can only do a shortie tomorrow as I’m on Grandma duty, but I’ll do a soggy couple of km to keep mine intact too. I *think* it’s supposed to be dry here tomorrow. Hallelujah! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Looking drier here too tomorrow, but looking pretty cold overnight, so I might have to wait until it thaws

Good decision Sandie. Ice is not good for running. I was accompanied by Jeff Galloway on my not parkrun this morning and all I had to contend with was puddles. Still not every run is a good run and I feel better for having been out there now. Even if I didn’t enjoy it at the time.

I would definitely not have gone if I hadn’t been doing RED. Mind you, I put my running gear on as soon as I got up, did my yoga, faffed, faffed some more until Mr S told me to just go 🤣

Slush on top of ice equals as near zero friction as makes no matter. Can't even bear to think about running, or even walking, on that lot. Base over apex in two seconds flat. I would have turned around and returned home! But then you are a mere youngster.🙂

I sneaked in a 3k yesterday, but rain and snow have returned today. I hope I can get out for a 5k tomorrow and then report progress back to my physio.

At least the cricket is going well......

It took me a while - it was getting worse though, so Mr S just basically kicked me out to stop me wittering! I keep putting off buying trail shoes, but I think I need to bite the bullet. I had such cold wet feet by the time I got home.

I did a 3k speed run yesterday as it wasn’t icy - first interval was 1 minute at 1 mile pace and I averaged 4.22/km. I was absolutely astonished 😯

Running on the beach?

Beachcomber66 profile image

That is really speedy!! Brilliant!

I tried running on the beach with Molly a bit at the start of C25k; Molly happily lolloped along on the short run walks, but I transferred to the woods when the running bits became longer; Molly likes to shoot off to see her friends on the beach ...it didn't work for either of us, so she won!

We take her to the beach nearly every day; loads of space for a large dog to run and nobody's territory, so no fights!! We couldn't go today, but Mrs BC read that the police had been out asking people why they were there etc.....it is a 17 minute drive from here so heaven knows whether they will take exception to that. The truth is that we can't exercise her off lead anywhere else so I may have to bite the bullet and challenge it if they give me a ticket. Long time since my last court appearance (not in the dock I hasten to add!). The fact is that on the beach the social distancing in many times greater than you can achieve walking her around the estate or up in the woods; the police are just reacting to the number of cars in the car park. I digress......at least we are back to having two drivers in the house so Molly can get her walk and I can have my run on the same day!

Oh, really difficult one! Doesn’t help when some police are making judgements based on reasonableness rather than letter of the law ☹️ Think I would risk it. You can’t argue it’s not local and if they disagree just nod and agree. It has to start getting better soon, please God 🙏

Same happened last year; they tried to enforce the guidance rather than the regulations; hope the magistrate is a dog lover 🙂

Spring anyway - I am so looking forward to Easter 🐣

That looks a little tricky to navigate. Fortunately we have nothing worse than puddles (and wind driving rain) in balmy Southsea. I think we are all looking forward to Spring for a variety of reasons.

Thanks Linda! Looks like today’s run may turn into a walk, though - snow still on the ground and it froze overnight. I’ll wait til after lunch to see if it improves but max temp today supposed to be 1c 🥶

in reply to Sandie1961

Thanks to your inspiring RED January I did make it out the door today without being pushed 🤣, I was meant to do 5 miles on my HM plan but as I’d had an extra rest day I switched it to Sunday’s run and did 6.5 miles 😄🤗
