In December I averaged about 8 miles a week. RED week 1 and I’ve done 28.75 miles. Much more like my old self. I can feel my fitness starting to come back. I’ve been away for a few days to Essex and Kingston upon Thames with GTFC so it’s been good running in the morning in new places. We even did Bushy Park parkrun. Tomorrow is back to work, back to night time runs and , worst of all, the diet will be introduced 😢 I will no doubt have a week of sugar withdrawal headaches, exhaustion and be even more irritable than usual but I’ll try my best. I just want to get back to what I was. Roll on RED 2 - I expect fewer miles but better nutrition! I’ll also start dry January (a week late) and continue through to Feb to compensate! How are the other REDers getting on?

RED January week 1 ☑️
Congratulations on running 28.75 on the first week of RED January, I hope you won't be too exhausted and have any headache on the first working week of 2024, keep the runs going throughout January, good luck.
Thanks Al! I’ll try my best. Might put in a couple of one milers this week amongst the usual ones 👍🏽
Good to hear Tasha! That is a big increase in the first week. You sound more like your old self (as in former …not old, as in old like me of course 🙄). Just enjoy yourself.
well done you!! That’s some achievement 👍. I’ve completed my first week of dry January and I’m starting to feel the benefits. Did my first spin class after 2 months and wasn’t too clobbered after it. Due to venture out on first run of the year either tomorrow or Wednesday, miles are miles no matter how slowly you achieve them right👍👍😊. Good luck with the rest of your red January x
Thank you for your reply! I’m really hoping the change in diet will help, but it may take me a week to get into it!
That's great Walshy3 Keep going and let us know how you're doing 👏👏👏
I most certainly will! The downside for me is that I work as an online shopper through the night, pushing totes and trollies, 5 hrs straight, best guess is that the top weight of those totes goes to 60kg, we have to work at speed too🙄. By the time I finish my shift and actually rest everything seems to seize up, it’s hard to get those legs moving again but believe me I’m trying 😐😐any given shift I cover 5-6 miles, but unfortunately they’re not running miles 🙄 anyway, keep that good lady of yours out running she’s a star👍
You've made an impressive start, good luck with all your plans xx
That’s really very impressive Tasha, well done indeed 👍😊. Hope next week goes well. I find it so hard to run in the week, just too tired after ‘running’ around after 2 & 3 year olds all day! 😂 😴 I will be following your progress 😀
🤣🤣🤣 That's tough but rewarding skysue16 Whatever you get done is well earned ⭐
Teacher here so I understand you! It’s exhausting and mentally draining. I’m usually ok once I’m out and I’m glad after that I went, but getting out is tough!
Most impressed that you manage to run after a long day at school 👍 My new year’s resolution is to try and leave school earlier, so maybe I could run when I get home - we will see!! 😂
Well done Tasha99 😍
thank you 🤩
This is brilliant, great milage well done!😁🏃♀️ I've only managed about 12 miles running (2 were parkruns cos of a bonus New year's day one!) , Tues, Friday and Sunday were walks as my backs been playing up . Xxx
Wow Tash! That's a lot right there. I sense a return of some mojo. Keep building on that amazing start. You're on a roll 😎
You are doing brilliantly!!!!!Although not reaching anywhere near your mileage I have been really enjoying RED January so far. Knowing that "I have to" run everyday removes the decision making and that, combined with giving myself permission to make the run only 2Km if I don't feel like going further has made getting out if the door after work a much easier task!! No work today so a lovely gentle 8 mile run. Back to the -anything so long as it's over 2km -runs after work tomorrow.
So pleased you put up your RED January post to get me going!!! Thanks.
That's awesome Week7 well done you. We're all in this together so we'll cheer each other on ⭐😊
Well done! I’m starting to find it hard now I’m back at work!
Yep me too. At least doing RED rakes away the decision making which is my biggest obstacle after a day at work.. I have to go onto autopilot!!You're doing so well- I'm right behind you.... well quite a long way behind you, but you know what I mean 😄
If you are struggling have you tried just doing the bare minimum on "bad" days. Knowing that it will only take 15 minutes or so makes a huge difference to me mentally when I'm in my post work plop zone!
Absolutely super! It sounds like it’s really working for you. There’s nothing like a new plan to get the old motivation going again. Long may that continue!
Good luck with the return to work. ❤️❤️
A new year and a new regime Tasha99 . You are going to do this because you are one determined lady. The great thing is, the running helps the weight loss and the weight loss helps the running. Win win.
Fell flat on my face (figuratively) on January 2nd. I haven't run since Jan 1st.
The "heavy cold" I got turns out to be the current variant of COVID.

Hi Tasha. Prodded(in a good way!) by your posts and GTFC I have been thinking about 5ks a lot recently. So one run a week is now going to be dedicated to speeding up short runs until I feel that I can manage a decent Park Run time again. More daylight hours and warmer temperatures will help! Today I did a 30 minute NRC run over a claggy trail and managed 4.48k(6:43/k) in that time. Just a start, but a pleasant surprise in that I wasn’t remotely out of breath and I felt great when I finished! So thanks for the wake up call both of you; some Park Runs in 2024 is definitely a NY resolution. 👍
